2025 NDCL fall sports recap

It was a historic season of fall sports here at NDCL full of wins, school/program records, and impressive runs in the OHSAA tournament! Let's take a moment to recap a fruitful 2025 fall sports season and all that our student-athletes and teams have accomplished. Each sport has both player and individual accolades that have been released to the public as of November 13, 2025.  

Girls Tennis
 
  • NDCL finished in third place of seven teams in the North Coast Conference Championships with 71 points 
  • Ella Workinger earned NCC MVP, a first singles conference title, and all-conference first team 
  • Emma Wilcox, Lea Nemer, Audrey Kilmer, and Gabby Dempsey earned second team all-NCC 
  • Ella Workinger (first singles) and the doubles team of Emma Wilcox/Lea Nemer all qualified for districts 
  • Workinger earned News-Herald Player of the Week honors for her performance at districts to qualify for the state tournament  
  • Ella Workinger advanced to state for the second time in her career as a sophomore 
  • Workinger finished in fifth place in the OHSAA DII Girls Tennis Singles State Tournament and earned second team All-Ohio 
  • Workinger (first team), Lea Nemer/Emma Wilcox (second team), Makenna Marrott/Audrey Kilmer (honor roll) were all named News-Herald all-stars
Girls Golf 
  • NDCL finished the regular season with a 12-1 record 
  • Undefeated in conference play at 8-0 
  • NDCL won the Mahoning Valley Girls Golf Classic, taking first place of ten teams with a score of 345. Lewandowski led the Lions with a 79 in the tournament.  
  • NDCL won the conference championship for the first time since 2017 with a team score of 367, defeating the second-place team by 20 strokes 
  • Alexis Urigel earned NCC MVP and first team at the conference championships with a tournament best score of 82 
  • Ava Lewandowski (88, first team), Lillian Kasper (98, second team), Claire Ribic (102, second team), Taylor Wallingford (99, second team) all earned all-conference honors for their performances at the conference championships 
  • Urigel qualified for districts as an individual with a 15th place finish at sectionals with an 89 
  • Urigel won News-Herald Player of the Week honors for her performance at sectionals to advance to districts  
  • Alexis Urigel and Ava Lewandowski were named News-Herald second team and honor roll all-stars 
Boys Golf 
  • NDCL won the Twinsburg Tournament, taking first place of four teams 
  • The team finished the season 3-2 in match play 
  • Lincoln Miller earned first team all-NCC at the conference championships with a score of 77. Lucas Marlow was named to second team with an 86 at the NCC Championships.  
  • Freshman Hamilton Miller tied for sixth place overall at sectionals to qualify for districts as an individual with a score of 80 
  • Hamilton Miller was named a News-Herald honor roll all-star 
Cross Country 
  • The Girls team took fourth place of seven teams at the North Coast Conference Meet with 87 points. Zoey Myers and Andrea Heredia earned first team all-conference for their second and seventh-place overall finishes. Lucy Edger finished in 17th place and collected honorable mention recognition. 
  • The Boys team took sixth place of seven teams with 87 points. Kyle Nedved and Quinton Linnert were the top finishers for the Lions in 11th and 19th place. Both Nedved and Linnert were named to second team and honorable mention all-conference for their performances. 
  • Both the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams advanced to regionals for the second straight year 
  • The Boys team finished in seventh place of 22 teams and the Girls team took eighth place of 22 teams 
  • Zoey Myers advanced to the DII state meet as an individual with a 14th place overall finish at regionals 
  • Myers was the first female runner in 15 years to qualify for the state meet. She also earned News-Herald Player of the Week for her stellar performance at regionals.  
  • Myers finished in 30th place of 232 runners with a time of 19:08.03 at the state meet in Columbus and earned Academic All-Ohio honors 
 
Girls Soccer 
  • NDCL Girls Soccer finished the 2025 season with a record of 11-6-3 
  • Completed the season with 11 wins, the most since 2019 
  • The Lions finished in third place in the North Coast Conference standings at 3-2-1 
  • The team recorded seven shutouts this season versus Cardinal Mooney, Cleveland Heights, Madison, Holy Name, Kirtland, Mentor, and Boardman 
  • Girls Soccer advanced to the district championship game for the first time since 2019, finished as runners-up 
  • Lexi Dobbert, Dria Duqum, and Ella Ko all earned all-conference first team honors 
  • Sadie Wurm and Emilee Gruss were named to second team and Marija Vukovic brought home honorable mention all-NCC 
  • Dobbert, Duqum, Ko, and Wurm all earned first team all-greater Cleveland 
  • Gruss, Vukovic, and Elizabeth Keefe were named all-greater Cleveland honorable mention recipients 
  • The team collected the All-Ohio Academic Team Award from the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association. This award is given to a team that finished the regular season with a combined, cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher. 
  • Dobbert, Vukovic, Gwen Kozelj, and Josie Mislay earned the All-Ohio Academic Senior Award for maintaining a minimum of a 3.7 GPA during the regular season 
  • Ella Ko (second team), Lexi Dobbert (third team), and Dria Duqum (honor roll) were all named News-Herald all-stars 
Boys Soccer 
  • NDCL Boys Soccer finished the 2025 season with a record of 11-6-3 
  • Completed the season with 11 wins, the second highest in school history 
  • The Lions finished in fourth place in the North Coast Conference standings at 3-2 
  • Ryan Cvitkovic set two school records for single season goals (39) and career goals (69) 
  • The team recorded seven games with five-plus goals scored 
  • The Lions won their first district championship since 2019 as the 15th seed and made an incredible run to the regional semifinal 
  • Ryan Cvitkovic, Luka Sesar, and Kristian Mazar all earned all-conference first team honors 
  • Nico Amoroso and Dario Musa were named to second team and Drae Musa brought home honorable mention all-NCC 
  • Ryan Cvitkovic was named News-Herald Player of the Year and first-year head coach Luciano Ruscitto was named News-Herald Coach of the Year 
  • Luka Sesar (first team), Kristian Mazar (second team), and Drae Musa (honor roll) were all named News-Herald all-stars 
Football 
  • NDCL Football finished the 2025 season with a record of 8-4 
  • Completed the season with eight wins, tied for the second most in school history since 2012 
  • The Lions hosted a home playoff game for the first time since 2017 
  • The team won their first-round playoff game and advanced to the regional quarterfinal for the first time since 2020 
  • The team recorded eight games with 20-plus points scored 
  • The Lions finished in third place in the North Coast Conference standings at 3-2 
  • NDCL Football had 15 all-conference honorees this season in Brady Capel, Casey McInnerney, Caiden Kovacs, Ryan Cvitkovic (first team offense), Vance Marut, Brendan Hernan (first team defense), Rob Bonchak, Nick Barros (second team offense), Blake Dumermuth, Drake Berschig (second team defense), Dylan Hoenigman, Joey Penny, Braeden Ryan, Carmen Cirino, Robby Lipowski (honorable mention) 
  • Three Lions won News-Herald Player of the Week honors this season in Brady Capel, Brendan Hernan, and Casey McInnerney 
  • 13 student-athletes earned OPSMA Northeast Lakes Division IV All-District honors: Ryan Cvitkovic (first team offense), Caiden Kovacs (first team offense), Brendan Hernan (first team defense), Drake Berschig (second team defense), Carmen Cirino (second team defense), Nick Barros, Rob Bonchak, Brady Capel, Blake Dumermuth, Dylan Hoenigman, Vance Marut, Casey McInnerney, Joey Penny, Braeden Ryan (honorable mention) 
  • The team had 55 student-athletes with a minimum of a 3.5 GPA this season 
Volleyball 
  • NDCL Volleyball finished the 2025 season with a record of 17-10 
  • The Lions finished in fourth place in the North Coast Conference standings at 6-6 
  • The team won 12 matches in a three-set sweep 
  • The team won their seventh straight district title and fifth regional championship in school history 
  • The program made their fifth trip to the state tournament under 18-year head coach Tom Ray 
  • Grace Daniels (first team), Abby Tolin (second team), and Frankie Brkic (honorable mention) all earned all-conference recognition 
  • Seniors Grace Daniels and Charlie Mann announced their commitment to DI Iona University and DII Bloomsburg University to continue their academic and volleyball careers
