BOWLING
at Wickliffe (1/6)- Boys & Girls Bowling teams won their first match of 2026 with big wins over Wickliffe. The Boys team ended a five-match losing streak and come back from 70 pins down to win by five 2031-2026. Senior Alex Willis led the Lions with a high game of 197 and 338 series. The Girls team cruised to a 400-pin victory over the Blue Devils. Senior Josie Mislay bowled a high game of 177 and a series of 296 for the Lions.
at Brush (1/8)- Girls Bowling defeated Brush 1418-1282 to win their second straight match. The team was led by Josie Mislay with a high game of 146 and 277 high series. Boys Bowling lost 1990-1857 to Brush. Mitchell Wesen served as the high bowler for the Lions with a 205 high game and 390 high series. Girls Bowling is 6-3 on the season and Boys Bowling moved to 4-5. Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, January 13th versus VASJ.
BOYS BASKETBALL
at Ursuline (1/6)- Boys Varsity Basketball fell 83-64 to a high-powered Ursuline team on the road. The Lions trailed the Irish by just nine points 38-27 at halftime but a 45-point offensive surge in the second half propelled them to a 19-point win. NDCL competed and battled with Ursuline in a fast-paced, physical game. Junior Robby Lipowski scored a team and career-high of 17 points, including three three-pointers. Brendan Hernan followed scoring in double figures with ten. Boys JV and Freshman Basketball lost 51-45 and 47-43.
vs Holy Name (1/9)- Boys Varsity Basketball dominated Holy Name 72-52 at home to snap their three-game losing streak. The Lions came out hot from the tip, outscoring the Green Wave 25-13 in the first quarter and led 41-26 at halftime. NDCL kept up the intensity and offensive firepower in the second half with 31 points to Holy Name's 26. Four Lions scored in double figures in the game with a new career-high from junior Jason Rook with 14. Seniors Brendan Hernan and Luke Keep scored 15 points each and Wesley Jacobson added 13. The Varsity Lions moved to 3-2 in conference play and 4-7 on the season. Boys JV and Freshman Basketball both picked up wins over Holy Name 62-59 and 46-44.Boys Basketball will be back on the court on Tuesday, January 13th for a non-conference matchup at Geneva.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
vs John Hay (1/7)- Girls Varsity Basketball defeated John Hay in a non-conference matchup in McGarry gym 60-39. The Lions outscored the Hornets 20-9 in the fourth quarter and extended their lead to 21 points from 10 points at the end of the third. Sophomore Coco Cochran scored a game-high 21 points for her fourth 20-plus point game this season. Seniors Maya Rowan and Brynn Munn contributed double figure scoring with 13 and 12 points, Rowan's season high. The Lions shot an exceptional 20/24 (83 percent) from the free throw line, their best performance at the stripe this season. Girls JV Basketball dominated John Hay 37-15.
vs Holy Name (1/10)- Girls Varsity Basketball dropped an overtime heartbreaker to Holy Name 52-49. The Lions and Green Wave were neck-and-neck through four quarters as neither team was able to pull away. Holy Name outscored the Lions by just three points 6-3 in overtime to win the game by three 52-49. The Lions were led by Coco Cochran with a team-high 14 points, her fourth straight game scoring in double figures. Maddy Varga added seven points and Brynn Munn, Emma Surbey, and Maya Rowan all contributed six points each. The Lions moved to 1-4 in conference play and 6-7 on the season. Girls JV Basketball lost 52-34 to Holy Name at home. The Varsity Lions take the floor again on Monday, January 12th versus West Geauga at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse as part of the Cavs Elite HS Hoops Series.
INDOOR TRACK
NEOITC Green Meet #1 (1/8)- Boys and Girls Indoor Track competed as one of the 15 teams competing in the NEOITC Green Meet #1 at SPIRE. Sophomores Lucy Edger and Emilee Gruss led the team with second place finishes in the 800M run (2:29.95) and 200M dash (26.63). Andrew Sepelak had a fifth and sixth place finish in the high jump (5'4) and the 60M hurdles (9.65). Elena Kijauskas took fourth in the 60M hurdles with a time of 12.58. Kyle Nedved finished sixth place in the 800M run with a time of 2:11.58. The boys and girls 4x200 relay teams took third and fourth place, finishing with times of 1:33.53 and 1:56.28.
Kevin Dare High School Invitational (1/10)- The Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams brought members of both teams to compete in the highly competitive Kevin Dare Invitational at Penn State University on Saturday. For the girls team, the 4x400 and 4x200 relays took 14th and 17th place with times of 4:26.93 and 1:53.99. Emilee Gruss finished in 15th place of 50 runners in the 400M dash with a time of 1:01.20. Lucy Edger took 18th place in the 800M run with a time of 2:30.15. The boys 4x400 and 4x200 excelled, taking eighth and tenth place with times of 3:33.72 and 1:34.17. Rob Bonchak led the team taking second overall of 55 sprinters in the 400M dash with an impressive time of 49.69. Casey McInnerney finished in sixth place in the 60M dash in 7.11. McInnerney also took fifth in the long jump with a 21-0.75 mark. Andrew Sepelak finished 15th in the 60M hurdles in 9.40. Kyle Nedved took 18th in the 3000M run with a time of 9:58.05. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, January 17th at the SPIRE HS Invitational.
WRESTLING
vs Shaw (1/8)- NDCL Wresting lost by just one point 39-38 to Shaw in their first home dual meet of the season. Notable match wins were earned by Wil Dauenhauer, Anthony Chamoun, and Trey Sweeney.
Matteucci Memorial Tournament (1/10)- NDCL Wrestling finished 14th of 21 teams competing in the Matteucci Memorial Tournament at Eastlake North High School. Braeden Jacobson and Zach Bores both went 4-1 in their matches, taking home fifth place finishes. Trey Sweeney also finished in fifth place and went 3-2 in his matches on the day. Wil Dauenhauer took seventh place (1-3), and Anthony Chamoun and Caleb Roach each finished 1-3 for eighth place. The Lions are back on the mat hosting Cleveland Central Catholic for a home dual on Thursday, January 15th.
ICE HOCKEY
at Cleveland Heights (1/9)- NDCL Ice Hockey defeated Cleveland Heights in dramatic fashion 2-1 for their fifth straight win. The Lions and Tigers were tied through three periods before senior Colin Krajnak scored on an assist from Nicholas Rosca with 2:59 remaining in the game. Cleveland Heights tied the game 1-1 just seconds after Krajnak's goal. With just six seconds left, sophomore Nic Davis comes to the rescue and scores the game winning goal assisted by Krajnak. The Lions improved to 7-0 in conference play with the win. Nate McClellan recorded 12 saves on 13 shots in goal.
vs Lakewood (1/10)- Ice Hockey extended their win streak to six games with a 9-1 win over Lakewood on Senior Night. Nic Davis scored a game-high three goals and added three assists. Colin Krajnak and Joshua Hollobaugh recorded two goals each and Nicholas Rosca and Wyatt Clemens Basham contributed one goal apiece. Krajnak, Anthony Golden, Clemens Basham, and Luis Enrique Heredia all tallied one assist each in the win. Nate McClellan notched six saves in goal on seven shots. The Lions improved to 9-3-1 with seven games remaining in the regular season.
SWIMMING
Perry Invitational (1/10)- NDCL Girls and Boys Swimming competed in the Perry Invitational at Perry High School on Saturday. The girls team finished in 8th place of 15 teams. Senior Brooke Dynes led both teams with the top individual finish on the day, taking first place in her signature 100 breaststroke event. Dynes broke a 27-year-old pool record in the 100 breaststroke with an outstanding time of 1:05.43. Both teams will be back in the pool on Tuesday, January 13th in a home dual meet versus Mentor.
