Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin's varsity boys soccer team erased a three-goal deficit in the second half before Chardon pulled away for a 6-4 victory Saturday, Oct. 10, at NDCL.
Junior Dario Musa recorded his second career hat trick, scoring three goals to lead a Lions attack that produced four second-half goals. Ante Susnjara added a goal and an assist as NDCL mounted a comeback that brought the match level with 20 minutes remaining.
Chardon built a 2-0 halftime advantage, including a penalty kick awarded in the closing minutes of the opening half. The Hilltoppers extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second half, leaving NDCL with a significant deficit to overcome.
The Lions responded with their most productive offensive stretch of the match.
Musa and Susnjara combined for three goals to bring NDCL back to 3-3 with approximately 20 minutes left. The rally shifted momentum and gave the Lions an opportunity to complete the comeback after trailing by three goals.
Chardon, however, answered with three consecutive goals to regain control and establish a 6-3 advantage.
Musa completed his hat trick in the closing minutes, accounting for NDCL's final goal and bringing the score to 6-4.
Along with Musa's three goals and Susnjara's goal and assist, Eli Lauric and senior Jakob Henderson each contributed an assist.
While the result highlighted areas for improvement defensively, NDCL's response after falling behind demonstrated the team's ability to generate scoring opportunities and compete through adversity.
Musa's second career hat trick marked another notable individual achievement in his junior season, while the Lions' four-goal second half provided an offensive foundation heading into conference play.
NDCL returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 13, when the Lions host Lake Catholic in a North Coast Conference matchup.
