After surrendering the opening touchdown, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin answered with contributions from its offense and defense to earn a 41-14 road victory over Padua on Friday night.
Padua struck first on a long touchdown pass, but the Lions responded with 21 unanswered points before halftime.
Quarterback Brady Capel rushed for three first-half touchdowns, giving NDCL a 21-7 advantage at the break. The defense helped create one of those opportunities when Drake Berschig forced a Padua fumble and Austin Otero recovered at the Bruins' 10-yard line.
The Lions continued creating turnovers in the second half.
Braeden Ryan intercepted a pass, setting up a Robby Lipowski rushing touchdown. Ryan later forced a fumble that David McIlroy recovered, and Capel capitalized by connecting with Wesley Jacobson for a touchdown.
Ryan contributed throughout the night, finishing with 60 rushing yards, seven tackles, a sack, an interception and a forced fumble.
NDCL's defense supplied the final points when Carmen Cirino returned an interception for a touchdown, completing the Lions' 41-point performance.
Capel accounted for four touchdowns — three rushing and one passing — as NDCL responded to Padua's early score by controlling the remainder of the contest.
The victory also marked the first time since 2018 that NDCL has defeated Padua in consecutive meetings.
The Lions return home next to face CVCA on Cathedral Latin Night.
