BOWLING
vs Brush (2/9)- Girls Bowling defeated Brush 1473-1240 at Roseland Lanes in their 18th match of the regular season. Allie Wiseman served as NDCL's high bowler with a 178 high game and a high series of 350. Boys Bowling fell 1756-1295 to Brush. Derek Scheidt led the team with a 145 high game and a high series of 257.
Boys vs Perry (2/10)- Boys Bowling lost 1688-1826 to Perry in their final home match of the season. Mitchell Wesen was NDCL's high bowler with a 193 high game and 306 high series in the match.
at Kenston (2/11)- Girls Bowling won their third straight match with a 1550-1012 win over Kenston. Allie Wiseman led the team with a 166 high game and 293 high series. Boys Bowling lost by a slim 23 pins to Kenston. Derek Scheidt was the Lions' top scorer with a 182 high game and 314 high series. Girls Bowling holds a 14-5 record with one regular season match remaining. Boys Bowling moved to 4-14 with one match left in the season.
at Lakeside (2/12)- Boys Bowling defeated Lakeside 2062-1775 in their final match of the season. Aaron Cotturo led the team with a 176 high game and 336 high series. Girls Bowling lost 2062-1775 to Lakeside. Josie Mislay recorded the high game (189) and high series (358) for the Lions in the match. Boys and Girls Bowling complete the 2025-26 season with overall records of 5-14 and 14-6.
Girls at OHSAA Sectionals (2/14)- NDCL Girls Bowling took fourth place overall at the OHSAA DI Sectional Tournament with 3,070 total pins. Seniors Allie Wiseman and Josie Mislay advanced to the district tournament for the second time in their careers. Wiseman finished in first place overall in singles, bowling her career high game of 211 and career high series of 570. Mislay followed with a third-place individual finish, scoring a career high series of 509. Wiseman and Mislay are the 11th (23rd overall) and 12th (24th overall) girl bowlers to represent NDCL in the district tournament. The senior duo will compete at districts on Monday, February 23rd at Rebman Recreation.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
vs Elyria Catholic (2/9)- Girls Varsity Basketball fell 45-32 to Elyria Catholic in the final game of the regular season. Elyria Catholic led 17-6 heading into halftime after a cold shooting first half from the Lions. NDCL found some pace in the third quarter but fought an uphill battle for the remainder of the game as Elyria Catholic continued to find answers offensively. The team was led by Coco Cochran with nine points, followed by Maya Rowan with eight. Girls JV Basketball lost 44-38 in their final game of the season to finish the year with a record of 9-8. Girls Varsity Basketball completes the regular season 5-6 in conference play and 11-11 overall. The Lions travel to Youngstown Chaney in the first round of the OHSAA tournament on Saturday, February 21st. The winner of the game advances to the district semifinal.
BOYS BASKETBALL
at Holy Name (2/10)- Boys Varsity Basketball picked up a big conference win in a 65-63 nail-biter at Holy Name. NDCL and Holy Name were neck-and-neck through all four quarters, but the Lions were able to execute key defensive plays down the stretch to secure the win. The team was led by Brendan Hernan scoring a game-high 23 points, 16 of those points coming in the second half. Wesley Jacobson followed with 17 points and Jason Rook logged 11. The Lions moved to 6-4 in conference play and swept their season series against Holy Name. Boys JV Basketball defeated Holy Name 47-42 and Freshman Basketball lost 50-47.
vs Lake Catholic (2/13)- Boys Varsity Basketball defeated Lake Catholic in an overtime thriller 63-53 in to sweep the season series. It was an intense, physical rivalry matchup in McGarry Gym, with each quarter ending in a close score. The Lions overcame their first half shooting struggles and went on a run in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. Wesley Jacobson scored on a layup in the first minute of overtime, and Robby Lipowski hit a big three to extend the lead to five, and the Lions never looked back. NDCL recorded 16 points in overtime, their highest scoring quarter of the game in just a four-minute span. The Lions went on to win 63-53, in a win that demonstrated their ability to maintain their confidence and composure in pressure situations. Wesley Jacobson logged a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds. Brendan Hernan also recorded a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds, and Jason Rook finished with 11 points. The Lions moved to 7-4 in conference play and 9-10 overall with one regular season game remaining. Boys JV Basketball topped Lake Catholic 62-45 and Freshman Basketball lost 45-33.
SWIMMING
OHSAA Sectionals (2/13)- NDCL Boys and Girls Swimming advanced 11 swimmers in 14 events to districts with high achieving performances at sectionals. Three relays for the girls team qualified in the medley relay (Brooke Dynes, Madalena Fulton, Presley Engoglia, Lillie Engle, 11th place/2:03.25), 200-freestyle relay (Fulton, Engoglia, Engle, Lily Apelt, 19th place/1:57.09), and the 400-freestyle relay (Dynes, Engle, Fulton, Engoglia, 12th place/4:09.72). Brooke Dynes qualified in two events in the 100-breaststroke (2nd place/1:06.55) and the 200-IM (5th place, 2:18.28). Madalena Fulton also qualified in the 200-IM (30th place/2:41.85) and Lillie Engle in the 50-freestyle (32nd place, 27.17). The boys team advanced two relays and three individuals to districts. The 200-freestyle relay (Mark LaForest, Noah Scheider, Lincoln Miller, Tommy Matthews, 21st place/1:41.32) and the 400-freestyle relay (LaForest, Scheider, Miller, Matthews, 21st place/3:46.32). Eli Charlton advanced in the 100-butterfly (23rd place/59.63) and Tommy Matthews in the 100-breaststroke (16th place, 1:04.05). Max Platz qualified in two events in the 50-freestyle (1st place/43.48) and 100-backstroke (1st place/2:10.07). These 11 swimmers will compete at the OHSAA DII District Meet next Friday, February 20th at Cleveland State University.
