Lion Sports Weekly (Week of May 25th)

BASEBALL 
vs Aurora (5/26)- #16 Varsity Baseball fell 4-7 to #8 Aurora in the OHSAA district semifinal at Aurora High School. The Lions' two hits in the game came compliments of Keenan Ryans and Lucas Marlow. Braeden Ryan and Evan Eichas recorded one RBI each, and Ryans, Eichas, Jason Rook, and Terrence Reagan all scored a run. Jack Montague got the start and struck out two batters in 2.1 innings pitched. Ryans, Marlow, and Aiden McCord also appeared on the mound in the game for the Lions. Aurora topped the Lions offensively in the game with eight hits and six RBI. NDCL Varsity Baseball completed the 2026 season with 12 wins and 11 losses.

FIELD 
Girls at DII Regionals (Day 1: 5/27)- The 4x400 relay team of Zoey Myers, Grace Wayne, Emilee Gruss, and Lucy Edger advanced to Friday's regional finals with a seventh-place finish. The Lions, seeded 16th entering the race and six seconds behind the 15th seeded team, rose to the occasion on the big stage. The 4x400 relay team finished the race with a new school record time of 4:01.76, three seconds faster than the previous record time set in 2016. The 4x400's impressive performance qualified them for a spot in Friday's finals to compete for a state bid. 

Boys at DIII Regionals (Day 1: 5/28)-
Three events from NDCL Boys Track & Field advanced to Saturday's regional finals and Casey McInnerney captured his state bid in the long jump. McInnerney, a junior, will make his second trip to state in the long jump event. He finished in fourth place of 15 competitors with a mark of 20-11.00. McInnerney also moved on to Saturday's finals in the 100m dash with a time of 11.25 for seventh place. Rob Bonchak finished in third place in the 400m dash with a time of 49.27 to move on to Saturday's finals. The 4x400 relay team of Bonchak, McInnerney, Brandon DiPasquale, and Mitchell Wesen also advanced to Saturday with a sixth-place finish and time of 3:27.42. 

Girls at DII Regionals (Day 2: 5/29)- NDCL Girls Track & Field's season came to a close at Friday's regional finals.
Zoey Myers (1600m run, 4x400 relay), Lucy Edger (800m run, 4x400 relay), Grace Wayne (4x400 relay), and Emilee Gruss (4x400 relay) all gave their best effort on Friday but came up just short in qualifying for the state meet. Zoey Myers took 10th place in the 1600m run with a time of 5:14.25. Edger finished 13th with a time of 2:23.73. The 4x400 team took eighth place with a time of 4:11.39. The girls team gave it all they had in Friday's finals in the toughest, and most competitive region in division II. Final results HERE. Boys at DIII Regionals (Day 2: 5/30)- Rob Bonchak and the 4x400 relay
team of Bonchak, McInnerney, DiPasquale, and Wesen punched their ticket to next weekend's state meet. Bonchak will make his second-career trip to the state meet in his signature 400m dash event. He took fourth place with a time of 49.39. Bonchak will look to repeat his 2024 state title in the 400m dash in 2026. The 4x400 relay team also took a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:25.80 to make it down to state. McInnerney took seventh place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.18, missing the cut for state by just ten one-hundredths of a second. Final results HERE.
