After nearly 50 scoreless minutes, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin boys soccer found its breakthrough — and then kept going.
Dario Musa scored all four NDCL goals in the second half as the Lions earned a 4-0 road victory over Cardinal Mooney on Thursday.
Cardinal Mooney's aggressive press and defensive pressure kept NDCL off the scoreboard throughout the first half. The match remained scoreless until the Lions finally broke through after halftime.
Once they did, Musa took over.
The senior scored four times over the remainder of the match, recording NDCL's first hat trick of the season and the second of his varsity career. The four-goal performance raised Musa's season total to a team-leading six.
Nico Amoroso played a major role in creating those opportunities, assisting on three of Musa's four goals. Amoroso now leads the Lions with five assists this season.
The offensive surge was matched by another strong performance at the other end of the field. NDCL kept Cardinal Mooney off the scoreboard to secure the shutout while the Lions' attack turned a scoreless match into a four-goal victory.
Thursday's result also continued a productive stretch for NDCL. Two days earlier, the Lions overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit by scoring three second-half goals in a 3-1 victory at Elyria Catholic. Across the two road matches, NDCL scored seven second-half goals.
The Lions return home Tuesday, Sept. 22, to face CVCA.
