Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin produced points on offense, defense and special teams Friday night, building a 24-point halftime advantage on the way to a 42-12 road victory over Bedford.
Robby Lipowski helped set up the opening score with a long punt return before Brady Capel finished the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run. Capel later connected with Blake Dummermuth on a deep touchdown pass to extend the Lions' advantage.
NDCL's defense then got directly into the scoring. Chuck Matthews recovered a Bedford fumble and returned it for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-0. Eli Lauric added a field goal before halftime to send the Lions into the locker room ahead 24-0.
Bedford responded with two touchdowns in the third quarter, cutting the margin to 24-12, but NDCL answered.
Braeden Ryan led the Lions down the field and capped the drive with a rushing touchdown. Ryan finished as NDCL's leading rusher and also contributed defensively.
The Lions continued creating opportunities in the game's final stages. A blocked punt set up Lauric's second field goal, Drake Berschig recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, and the defense added a safety.
Capel finished with one rushing and one passing touchdown, while Dummermuth added the receiving score and contributed in pass coverage throughout the night.
Ryan helped NDCL close the game with a first-down run that allowed the Lions to finish in victory formation.
The win moves NDCL to 4-1 following consecutive victories over Kenston, Benedictine and Bedford.
The Lions return to action Thursday, Sept. 24, against Holy Name at Brooklyn.
