Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin JV girls tennis competed with a shorthanded lineup Wednesday, falling 5-0 to Avon at home.
With three veteran players unavailable, the Lions turned to younger members of the roster for increased opportunities against a strong Avon lineup.
Livy Lukacs and Sophia Pelton highlighted the effort for NDCL with a competitive opening set. The pair battled throughout the first set before unforced errors became a factor as the match progressed.
Avon ultimately secured victories across all five courts to complete the sweep.
While the team result did not go NDCL's way, the match provided valuable court experience for several younger Lions who were asked to take on larger roles with the lineup adjusted.
The opportunity comes late in the season as NDCL continues working to develop its depth and give players experience against quality competition.
The Lions have a quick turnaround and return to the court Thursday, Sept. 24, when they host Hudson.
