Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin football combined a four-touchdown first half with a strong defensive performance Friday night to defeat Kenston, 28-7, at home.

The Lions wasted little time creating momentum.

Casey McInnerney opened the scoring with a pick-six, giving NDCL an early defensive touchdown. The offense followed when quarterback Brady Capel connected with Robby Lipowski on a short pass that Lipowski turned into a 15-yard touchdown.

Capel then powered across the goal line for a rushing touchdown before finding Drake Berschig on a play-action pass for another score. The four touchdowns sent NDCL into halftime with a 28-0 advantage.

While the offense built the lead, the Lions' defense kept Kenston from gaining traction. NDCL held the Bombers below 200 yards of total offense and received contributions throughout the unit.

Joey Velotta led the Lions with 18 tackles and a sack. Carmen Cirino and Austin Otero also reached double figures in tackles, while five different NDCL defenders recorded a sack.

Blake Dummermuth added an interception to the defensive effort.

Capel finished with 144 passing yards and two touchdowns while adding 36 rushing yards and a score. Dummermuth caught three passes for 79 yards, and McInnerney added a 37-yard rush to his defensive touchdown.

Kenston broke through for its only score after halftime, but NDCL maintained control. Lipowski picked up a first down on the Lions' final possession, allowing NDCL to finish the night in victory formation.

The Lions improve to 2-1 and next face Benedictine at John Carroll University.
