Keith Abood Named Head Hockey Coach

Notre Dame Cathedral Latin announced the hiring of Keith Abood as head ice hockey coach on Thursday afternoon.

Abood returns to the high school ranks for the first time since he was an assistant coach at St. Ignatius for three seasons (2009-2011) including serving as member of the coaching staff for a state championship team in 2010.

Abood was heavily involved as coach and hockey director at the Cleveland Skating Club (1998-2019). He assisted in the training and programming for athletes ranging from ages 3 to 14. He has also been involved with Team Ohio and Euclid Cougars youth program.

He was a three-time Plain Dealer All-Scholastic hockey player at Shaker Heights. He finished his high school career with 142 assists, ranking him 13th all-time in state history. He is also the all-time leader at Shaker Heights history with 262 points. He was a member of two Baron Cup championship teams (1978, 1979) and State Runner-up in 1979.

He then went on to compete at Kent State University, playing NCAA Division I hockey for the Golden Flashes. He graduated from Kent State in 1981. After college he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was later honorably discharged in August 1986.

Abood resides in Willoughby. His daughter, Clare, is a 2018 graduate of NDCL and his father, Myron, is a 1946 graduate of Cathedral Latin.
