Indoor Track Competes at OATCCC State Meet


The Boys Indoor Track team on the strength of two relay runs finished in ninth place as a team on Friday at the OATCCC Indoor State Track Meet. The Lions had two relays and two individual performances. Junior Meghan Palinski competed in both the Weight Throw and Shot Put. 

Javon King - Senior - Triple Jump
King advanced to the finals in the Triple Jump, finishing with a school record and season-best jump of 39-7 on Friday. He finished 12th overall in the competition. This was the first season the Lions had competitors in the Triple Jump, which is normally only seen at the collegiate and professional ranks. 

4x200 Relay - Team of Javon King, Danny Yanick, Finn Matheney and Colm Matheney
The Lions finished a strong second place behind Glenville with a time of 1:32.24. The Tarblooders were led by five-star football recruit Bryce West ran a time of 1:28.03. This same team came up just short of the school record they set in January at SPIRE with a time of 1:32.18. 

Anthony Ciecierski - Junior - 3200
Ciecierski coming off a podium finish at the OHSAA Cross Country State Meet (11th place). He finished Friday in 20th place in a time of 9:50.21. Impressively, Ciecierski lowered his time by nearly 10 seconds from his state appearance in the 3200 last year (9:59.96). 

4x400 Relay - Team of Colm Matheney, Peter Wesen, Finn Matheney and John Kellis 
The 4x400 last year was the crowning event for the Lions postseason, winning the state title edging out Glenville (3:26.97). The Tarblooders ran a time of 3:26.11 to outpace the Lions this year, as the Lions turned in a school record time of 3:26.11. The Lions previous best this year and qualifying time of 3:26.17 was run by Bates, Matheney, King and Yanick. 

Meghan Palinski - Junior - Shot Put, Weight Throw
Palinski has been a focal point of consistency this season for the Lions. She finished up her junior indoor season with a 22nd place finish in Shot Put (32-5.5) and 12th place in Weight Throw (39-7.5). She set the Shot Put Indoor record with a throw of 35-7 at Muskingum in January, while also breaking the Weight Throw record a couple weeks ago at Akron with a throw of 43-10.
