Lion Sports Weekly (Week of December 8th)

BOWLING 
at Shaker Heights (12/8)- The NDCL Boys and Girls Bowling teams defeated Shaker Heights on the road at RollHouse Solon. The girls team won by almost 700 pins 1669-978 and was led by senior Allie Wiseman with a 185 high game and 346 series. The boys team won by 550 pins and a final score of 1922-1473. Mitchell Wesen was the high bowler for the Lions with a 212 high game and series of 418.  

at Willoughby South (12/10)-
 NDCL Boys and Girls Bowling fell to Willoughby South 2314-1832 and 1695-1502. The boys were led by seniors Alex Willis (187 high game) and Mitchell Wesen (336 high series). Josie Mislay was the high bowler for the girls squad with a 165 high game and 289 high series.  

at Eastlake North (12/11)-
 NDCL Boys and Girls Bowling lost 2353-2069 and 1838-1452 to Eastlake North. Mitchell Wesen served as the high bowler for the Lions in the match with a 205 high game and 397 high series. The girls team was led by Allie Wiseman with a 163 high game and 300 high series. NDCL Bowling will be back in action on January 6th hosting Wickliffe at Roseland Lanes. 
 
BOYS BASKETBALL 
at Kenston (12/9)- Boys Varsity Basketball fell to Kenston in a tight 59-54 road contest. The Lions trailed by just two points 44-42 heading into halftime and led Kenston 42-38 at the end of the third quarter. The Bombers' 21-point fourth quarter scoring bout proved too much as the Lions scored 12 in the final quarter, ten of those points scored by senior Brendan Hernan. Hernan recorded a team-high of 16 points and Luke Keep followed with 13. Wes Jacobson notched nine points on three three-pointers. Boys JV and Freshman Basketball lost 43-36 and 56-26 to Kenston.  

at Benedictine (12/12)-
 Boys Varsity Basketball dropped a 57-54 heartbreaker to Benedictine to open conference play. The Lions were firing on all cylinders offensively in the first half and led the Bengals 37-27 at halftime. Benedictine's 22-point third quarter gave them a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lions fought back and led by one point with two minutes to go, but a go-ahead three-pointer by Benedictine with 48 seconds left gave them the lead. NDCL was forced to foul, and the Bengals were able to knock down free throws to win. Brendan Hernan recorded a team-high 20 points and Wes Jacobson also scored in double figures with ten. Boys JV and Freshman Basketball lost 52-39 and 56-44 to Benedictine. NDCL Boys Basketball will be back in action on Tuesday, December 16th as they host conference foe Padua at home.  
 
GIRLS BASKETBALL 
vs Riverside (12/10)- Girls Varsity Basketball suffered their first loss of the season to Riverside at home 48-39. The Lions were led by senior Maddy Varga with nine points; seven of them were scored in the first quarter. Coco Cochran tallied eight points, and Lily Reginelli recorded six points off the bench on two three-pointers. Brynn Munn also added six points on three tough takes to the rim. Girls JV Basketball fell to Riverside 51-40.  

at
 Beaumont (12/13)- Girls Varsity Basketball defeats Beamont on the road 47-40 for their first conference matchup of the season. Senior point guard Brynn Munn recorded a team-high 13 points and knocked down three three-pointers. Coco Cochran scored in double figures once again for the Lions with 12 points. Sophomore Sadie Wurm tallied a new career-high of nine points in the win. Girls Varsity Basketball moved to 4-1 and 1-0 in NCC play. Girls JV Basketball won 27-17 over the Beaumont. The Lions will be back on the court on Wednesday, December 17th to host the Bruins of Padua. 
 
WRESTLING 
Russ Ward Memorial (12/13)- NDCL Wrestling finished eighth place in 16 teams competing in the Russ Ward Memorial at Cardinal High School. Senior Zach Bores led the team with a first-place finish in the 190-weight class. Bores pinned all five of his opponents in a combined time of 6:05. Trey Sweeney took second place at 175 and won three of his four matches. Braeden Jacobson finished in third place at 165 and went 2-2 on the day. The Lions return to the mat next Friday and Saturday in the Soap Super Duals at Vermilion High School. 
 
INDOOR TRACK 
SPIRE HS Holiday Classic (12/12)- NDCL Indoor Track competed in the SPIRE Holiday Classic for their first meet of the 2025-26 season. Senior Rob Bonchak led the team with a second-place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:24.07 and also set a new school record. Casey McInnerney took sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.18) and 11th in the 300-meter dash (37.08). McInnerney achieved the NHSTFXCCA Indoor Track All-American qualification standard in the 60-meter dash. Tyler Milk finished 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.06. On the girls side, sophomore Emilee Gruss took tenth place in the 300-meter dash with a time of 43.31, also setting a school record in this event. She also finished 23rd in the 60-meter dash in 8.48. Melanie Drazdik and Elena Kijauskas both finished in 23rd place in the 300-meter dash (48.28) and 60-meter hurdles (12.96). 

Rust Buster Open (12/13)-
 The NDCL Indoor Track team appeared in the Akron Rust Buster High School Open at Akron University on Saturday. On the boys side, Kyle Nedved led the team with the top individual finish on the day. Nedved took sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:50.49. Following in ninth place in the 1600-meter run was Tyler Milk with a time of 5:02.49. Andrew Sepelak took 15th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.10. The 4x400 meter relay team finished in second place with a time of 3:54.97 and the 4x200 meter relay team took sixth (1:43.38). Lucy Edger was the top individual finisher for the girls team, taking 13th place in the 400-meter dash (1:05.07). The NDCL girls 4x400 and 4x200 relay teams both had strong performances. The 4x400 took second with a time of 4:42.35 and the 4x200 finished sixth (2:08.40). NDCL Boys and Girls Indoor Track will compete again on January 8th in the NEOITC Green Meet #1 at SPIRE.  
 
SWIM & DIVE 
vs Wickliffe/Elyria Catholic (12/10)- NDCL Boys and Girls Swimming defeated both Wickliffe and Elyria Catholic in a home tri-meet. The girls team dominated both Wickliffe and Elyria Catholic 97-43 and 91-42. Individual first place finishes were earned by Gabby White in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Madalena Fulton in the 200 IM, Presley Engoglia in the 100 butterfly, and Lillie Engle in the 100 backstroke and butterfly. The 400-freestyle relay team of Lillie Engle, Madalena Fulton, Presley Engoglia, and Gabby White took first. The boys team topped Wickliffe 66-55 and Elyria Catholic 72-12. First place finishes were earned by Tommy Matthews (200 free/100 breaststroke), Noah Scheider (200 IM), Eli Charlton (50/100 freestyles), and Brady Schneider (100 backstroke). The 200-medley relay team of Lincoln Miller, Matthews, Charlton, and Scheider and the 400-freestyle relay team of Max Platz, Schneider, Miller and Charlton both took first place in the meet.

ICE HOCKEY 
vs Cleveland Heights (12/13)- NDCL Ice Hockey defeated Cleveland Heights 6-2 at home for their fifth win of the season. The Lions were led by sophomore Nic Davis with a game-high three goals. Colin Krajnak, Wyatt Clemens Basham, and Gavin Knapton all scored one goal each in the win. Josh Gucciardo and Joshua Hollobaugh tallied two assists apiece, and Nic Davis and Nicholas Rosca both recorded one assist. Nate McClellan collected nine saves on 11 opponent shots.  

at
 Nordonia (12/14)- NDCL Ice Hockey topped Nordonia 6-4 for their third straight win. Freshman Josh Gucciardo paced the Lions with a game and career-high three goals. Nic Davis scored two of his own and Gavin Knapton contributed one. Colin Krajnak tallied a team-high two assists, and Nicholas Rosca, Davis, and Gucciardo all recorded one assist each. Nate McClellan notched 13 saves on 17 shots. NDCL Ice Hockey improved to 5-3-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. The Lions take the ice again on Saturday, December 20th versus Bay on CYO/Youth Night. 
 
GYMNASTICS 
at Brecksville-Broadview Heights (12/11)- NDCL Girls Gymnastics had a great performance in their first meet of the season at Brecksville-Broadview Heights. The Lions finished in third place of eight competing teams, some of northeast Ohio's best in Brecksville-Broadview Heights and Mayfield. Senior Ava Lewandowski led the team with a seventh-place finish in the all-around and placed fourth on vault. Anna Barabas took third place on vault and placed ninth in the all-around. Sophie Flynn followed taking tenth place in the all-around. The team will be back in action on Friday, December 19th in their tri-meet with Solon and Kenston.
