Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls soccer earned its first victory of the season Wednesday, using two goals from Ella Ko and a strong second-half response to defeat Cleveland Heights, 3-1, on the road.

Ko put the Lions in front in the 19th minute, converting a free kick to give NDCL a 1-0 advantage. The Lions carried that lead into halftime.

Cleveland Heights responded quickly after the break, scoring in the 41st minute to level the match at 1-1.

NDCL did not allow the equalizer to shift the momentum for long.

The Lions turned to another set piece to regain the lead, with Ko scoring off a corner kick for her second goal of the night and a 2-1 advantage.

NDCL added insurance in the 74th minute. Mallory Theissen delivered a through ball to Emilee Gruss, who finished the opportunity to extend the Lions' lead to 3-1.

At the other end, goalkeeper Sadie Wurm made five saves to help protect the advantage and secure NDCL's first victory of the 2026 season.

"The team chemistry is coming together to play that complete game," the coaching staff said.

After opening the season with a 3-2 loss to West Geauga and battling Willoughby South to a 1-1 draw, Wednesday's performance provided another step forward for the Lions — and this time, a road victory to show for it.

NDCL returns home Saturday, Aug. 29, to host Hawken at 1 p.m.
