Lions Turn Attention to Conference Championship After Setback at Kenston

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls golf saw a 14-match winning streak in match play come to an end Thursday, falling to Kenston, 190-170, at Punderson Golf Course.

Alexis Urigel and Lillian Kasper shared team-low honors for the Lions, each carding a 44.

The loss ended a notable stretch for NDCL in head-to-head competition. According to the team's post-match report, the Lions had won 14 consecutive matches dating back to their previous match-play loss against Riverside on Aug. 25, 2025.

While Thursday's result brought that run to an end, NDCL's focus quickly shifted to what comes next: the conference championship.

"What can you control? Your attitude, your body language, your pre-shot routine, and your focus on one shot at a time," head coach Tiger Alexander said. "What's important now? Right now, it's our preparation."

That preparation will be the emphasis as the Lions move from the regular-season match schedule into championship competition.

Alexander challenged the team to maintain a disciplined approach throughout its upcoming practices and prepare with the same focus it will need in competition.

"Nobody rises to the occasion; you sink to the level of your training," Alexander said. "Let's make our training this week harder than the championship so that when we step onto the first tee at Grey Hawk, it feels easy."

NDCL returns to competition Tuesday, Sept. 15, for the conference championship at Grey Hawk Golf Club.
