Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin JV football created opportunities on defense Saturday but could not generate enough offensively in a 14-7 home loss to Benedictine.
The Lions entered the contest unbeaten after opening the season with three consecutive victories, including back-to-back shutouts against West Geauga and Kenston.
Against Benedictine, NDCL's defense continued to create turnovers.
Chuck Matthews recorded two interceptions, while Josh Smul provided the Lions' scoring with an interception returned for a touchdown.
The three takeaways helped keep NDCL within one score, but the Lions were unable to overcome their offensive struggles as Benedictine held on for the 14-7 victory.
The loss moves NDCL to 3-1 on the season.
The JV Lions will look to respond when they return home to face Bedford.
