Zoey Meyers and Kyle Nedved turned in top-11 finishes to lead Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin cross country at the Kenston Frank Gibas Invitational on Sept. 9.

The meet provided a change from the Lions' normal competition. Heavy rain resulted in the boys and girls competing together, while the course covered two miles rather than the standard 5K distance.

Meyers led the NDCL girls with a third-place finish.

Avery Bender placed 51st, followed closely by Kennedy Smith in 54th. Caroline Weaver finished 74th, Katya Cobb was 75th and Lucy Edger placed 82nd.

Edger's performance carried additional significance as it marked her first race of the season. The junior had been sidelined after suffering a serious ankle sprain in late July that restricted her from activity for more than a month.

Nedved led the boys with an 11th-place finish. Tyler Milk placed 29th and Nathan Zanko followed in 34th.

Noah Schneider finished 126th, Will Dixon was 144th and Joe Jagodnik placed 147th.

Dixon also made his return to competition after an injury.

Because NDCL does not typically compete over the two-mile distance or race during the week, the Lions approached the invitational as an opportunity to gain additional competitive experience while continuing to build toward the second half of the season.

With Edger and Dixon returning to competition, the meet also represented another step toward getting the Lions' lineups healthy for the races ahead.
