Personal-best performances throughout the girls lineup highlighted Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin cross country's appearance at the Wooster Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 12.
Facing a large field that included several top Division I and Division II programs, the Lions competed through a meet impacted by severe weather. Five races were eventually canceled and another was shortened.
Senior Zoey Meyers delivered NDCL's top performance, finishing 11th with a personal-best time of 18:47.2.
The improvement extended throughout the girls lineup. Every NDCL girl who completed the race recorded a personal best, with Avery Bender, Kennedy Smith, Caroline Weaver and Katya Cobb each posting their fastest performances.
Junior Lucy Edger did not compete because of injury.
The NDCL boys faced an additional challenge. Although the Lions compete in Division III, travel logistics resulted in them racing against the Division I/II field.
Kyle Nedved was NDCL's top finisher, placing 88th and missing his personal best by only three seconds.
Luis Enrique Heredia-Salinas and Blake Newman each recorded new personal bests. Tyler Milk finished seven seconds shy of his PR, while Noah Scheider came within one second of his best.
Weather ultimately affected the remainder of NDCL's lineup. Joe Jagodnik was on the course when his race was stopped because of lightning and did not receive an official time. Nathan Zanko started but was unable to finish, while Will Dixon did not compete because of injury.
Despite the unusual circumstances, the meet provided another indication of the Lions' progress. With personal bests across the girls lineup and additional PRs from Heredia-Salinas and Newman, NDCL continued to move toward its primary season objective of individual improvement.
