Kyle Nedved broke the 17-minute barrier for the first time and six Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin runners recorded personal-best times Saturday as the Lions competed at the Strongsville Invitational.
The meet featured runners from 30 high schools and more than 950 high school competitors. Rain earlier in the week left portions of the course soggy and impacted conditions, but NDCL still produced several season-best performances.
Zoey Myers led the NDCL girls with a 10th-place finish. Behind her, Avery Bender placed 124th, Caroline Weaver finished 141st and Katya Cobb took 152nd.
Bender, Weaver and Cobb each established new personal records.
On the boys' side, Nedved finished 29th in 16:58, breaking 17 minutes for the first time in his high school career. The performance marked another significant step forward for the senior after leading the Lions throughout the season.
Tyler Milk followed in 82nd place and came within three-tenths of a second of matching his personal best.
Louis Enrique Heredia-Salinas finished 178th, Blake Newman placed 184th, Noah Scheider was 204th and Joe Jagodnik finished 350th. Nedved, Heredia-Salinas and Jagodnik each recorded personal-best times.
In total, six NDCL runners established PRs despite the course conditions.
Lucy Edger, Kennedy Smith and Nathan Zanko did not compete while attending Kairos.
The performances continued NDCL's season-long emphasis on individual improvement as the Lions move closer to postseason competition.
