NDCL Alum Matt Guerrieri hired as the Ohio State Football Safeties Coach, announced Wednesday by the university.
Guerrieri is a familiar face for the Buckeyes football squad as he served as the senior advisor and analyst in 2022. In the 2023 football season, he was with University of Indiana as the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
In 2018, Guerrieri was nominated for the Broyles Award for the best assistant coach in the country and was a top-three finalist for AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020.
Coach Guerrieri will take over the No. 1 passing defense in the country this past season into what should be an exciting 2024 campaign.
At NDCL, Guerrieri was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain in football, playing for coach Tim Mainello. He was an all-area and all-conference recipient. In baseball, Guerrieri played for long-time NDCL Baseball coach Jim Clark where he was also a four-year letter winner and all-area selection. The three-sport athlete was also a member of the basketball program, as he was a three-year letter winner and team captain. Outside of his stellar high school athletic career, he was just as impressive in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society and the National Honor Society of High School Scholars.
Guerrieri is a 2007 NDCL graduate and native of Willoughby Hills. He went on to play Football at Davidson College from 2007-2009. In 2009, he was named team captain and started at free safety before enduring a season ending injury.
He graduated from Davidson in 2011 with a degree in sociology. He then went on to earn his master's degree in Christian studies from Duke in 2014. He is Married to the former Alex Thompson and the couple has one son, James.
