at Mentor (10/7)- Varsity Soccer lost 4-3 in a close battle at Mentor. The Lions faced a 3-0 deficit heading into halftime. NDCL rallied back in the second half to tie the game 3-3 on two goals from senior Emma Clayton and one goal scored by Klara Stergar. The Lions' second half comeback fell short as Mentor scored once more to take a 4-3 lead. NDCL was unable to answer in the remaining minutes of the contest. JV Soccer ends in a 0-0 tie with Mentor. 

vs Lake Catholic (10/9)- In Varsity Soccer's 7-0 dominant victory over Lake Catholic, they won the first-ever North Coast Conference title. Freshman Ella Ko and junior Dria Duqum led the Lions with a game and season-high two goals apiece. Junior Klara Stergar and senior Amelia Alt both scored one goal each. Freshman goalie Sadie Wurm executed her eighth shutout in goal this season. The Lions concluded conference play with a record of 5-1 and a regular season record of 8-5-3. 

JV vs Bay (10/9)- JV Soccer ties with Bay 0-0 in their final match of the season. The JV squad completes the 2024 season with a record of 6-3-2. 

 

vs Lake Catholic (10/8)- Varsity Soccer fell 3-1 to a talented Lake Catholic squad. The game was tied 0-0 going into halftime. The Lions faced a 2-0 deficit in the opening minutes of the second half before senior Brennen Burke capitalized on an impressive goal to cut the Cougars' lead to just one goal. Lake Catholic scored once again with just under ten minutes to go in the game to give them a 3-1 lead. The Lions were unable to make a comeback, and the game ended with a final score of 3-1. JV Soccer lost 2-0 to Lake Catholic. 

at Mentor (10/10)- Varsity Soccer versus Mentor ends in a 1-1 tie in their last game of the regular season. Junior Ryan Cvitkovic scored the goal for the Lions. He has scored 11 goals in 16 regular season games. Varsity Soccer ends the regular season with a record of 5-5-6. JV Soccer also ends in a tie, 0-0. 

 

vs Holy Name (10/8)- Varsity Volleyball takes down Holy Name on Senior Night 3-1. Senior McKenna Morrison led the way for the Lions with nine kills, 22 digs, and four aces. Freshman Frankie Brkic added 13 kills and five digs. Senior Selena Moissis dished out 23 assists, 11 digs, four kills, and four aces. JV and Freshman Volleyball both defeated the Green Wave 2-0.  

at Lake Catholic (10/10)- Varsity Volleyball wins a five-set revenge thriller against Lake Catholic, the number one team in OHSAA Division VI. The Lions lost set one, won set two and three, lost set four, and won set five 15-12. Frankie Brkic led the offense with 15 kills, 20 digs, two aces, and two blocks. Grace Daniels had 22 assists, 11 digs, and three aces. Grace Gaeta had an all-around game with four kills, two digs, three aces, and three blocks. JV Volleyball lost 2-1 to the Cougars and Freshman Volleyball won 2-0.

at Mentor (10/12)- Varsity Volleyball falls in a five-set heartbreaker to Mentor in their final regular season game of the season. The Lions won the first two sets and lost by a close margin in the next three to give the Cardinals the match victory. Frankie Brkic led the Lions on offense with 17 kills. McKenna Morrison added 12 kills and seven digs. Abby Tolin had 19 digs and Ava Kills had eight kills and blocks. JV Girls Volleyball lost to Mentor 0-2 and Freshman Volleyball won 2-1. 

 

District Tournament (10/9)- The doubles team of senior Elena Fleming and freshman Ella Workinger defeated Hudson 6-0, 6-0 in their first district match and Hudson 6-0, 6-0 in the district quarterfinals to advance to the state tournament. They will play Massillon Jackson on Friday in the semifinals. If they beat Massillon Jackson, they will play the winner of the Highland/Hoover match in the district final. The winner of that game will be the 2024 district champions. Senior Lucy Paulin fell 6-1 and 6-0 in her first match at districts. 

District Tournament (10/11)- The duo of Fleming/Workinger defeated Hoover in the district final match in a come-from-behind victory, losing the first match 3-6 and winning the next two 6-3 and 6-2 to become District Champions. To advance to the district final match against Hoover, they defeated Massillon Jackson 6-3, 6-4. Fleming/Workinger will advance to the state tournament next week, congratulations, Elena & Ella! 

FOOTBALL

Varsity vs Walsh Jesuit (10/11)- Varsity Football fell 63-21 to an undefeated Walsh Jesuit Warriors team in week eight. The Lions kept the game close through the first quarter of play as the game was tied 14-14 with 1:00 left. Walsh scored again in the final minute of the first quarter to give them a 21-14 lead. The Warriors scored on every offensive possession that they had in the game, putting nine touchdowns on the board that the Lions could not match. NDCL scored three touchdowns on offense. Quarterback Ryan Lipowski connected with Connor Hernan twice in the endzone and Brayden Buell ran it in for a score of his own. Hernan caught six passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Buell led the rushing attack with 39 yards on seven carries and one touchdown. Lipowski completed 14 of his 22 pass attempts for 148 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Vance Marut led the Lions on the defensive end for the second straight week with seven tackles and one pass breakup. Varsity Football moves to 5-3 on the season. The Lions will be back in action next Friday night at Padua Franciscan. 

JV at Walsh Jesuit (10/12)- JV was defeated 35-12 to Walsh Jesuit for their first loss of the season. 

 

NCC Championships (10/12)- NCDL hosted the first North Coast Conference Cross Country championships on Saturday. The Boys team finished in second place overall, led by a second-place finish from sophomore Ian Res (16:24.85) and a third-place finish by freshman Owen Thomas (16:38.96). Senior Drew Downing finished in tenth place with a time of 17:25.10 and freshman Nathan Zanko in 12th place with his time of 17:37.83. Res and Thomas were named to NCC First Team and Downing and Zanko were named to Second Team. Downing and Zanko earned Honorable Mention recognition. The Girls team finished in third place overall, they were led by sophomore Zoey Myers with a 12th place finish (21:42.15) and freshman Avery Horvath (22:09.69). Both Myers and Horvath earned NCC Second Team for their performances.
