Five Lions from Varsity Football earned All-District first and second team recognition for the 2024 season, announced Thursday afternoon.
Leading the way collecting first team offense was kicker/punter
Ryan Cvitkovic. The junior was a perfect 42-42 on his extra points this season. He also converted five of his six field goal attempts.
Seniors Ryan Lipowski and
Connor Hernan were named to second team offense for the district. At quarterback, Lipowski completed 61 percent of his passes this season, throwing for a total of 1,591 yards and 19 touchdowns. Hernan, the starting tight end, caught 40 passes this season for a team-high 469 yards and eight touchdowns.
Bringing home second team defense honors were seniors Angelo Tamburrino and
Brendan Sawitke. Tamburrino recorded 70 tackles this season along with 18 tackles for loss, three sacks, and picked up three fumble recoveries at linebacker. Sawitke led the team this season with four interceptions at cornerback and added 41 tackles.
The Varsity Lions finished the regular season 5-5. The team was defeated by Glenville in the first round of the OHSAA Division IV playoffs on November 1st.
