The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School Athletic Department announced the hiring of Pamela Malone as the new head girls soccer coach on Monday afternoon.
Malone brings 30-plus years of head coaching experience, as she served as the head girls soccer coach at Chagrin Falls High School from 1991-2021.
"Hiring a coach of the caliber of Pamela Malone will help to revitalize our program and set it up for success for years to come," said NDCL Athletic Director Jason Baxter. "Her record of on-field success speaks for itself. But getting to know her during the process, and knowing of all the great work she has done off the field as an educator for 35 years and the last eight years as a trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance, I have no doubt she will make a profound impact on our student-athletes."
Coach Malone comes to NDCL as the winningest high school female soccer coach in state history with a 30-year record of 398-141-59. She is one of only five soccer coaches, male or female to reach the 350-win mark in state history.
Her resume also includes two state championships (1996 & 2021), state runner-up in 2016, six-time state semifinalist, seven regional championships, 15 district championships, and 25 sectional championships.
In her final season at Chagrin Falls in 2021, the Tigers played one of the toughest regular season schedules in the state and beat Wyoming High School 4-2 in the state championship. As head coach, Malone brought the first state championship in 1996 and second in 2021 to Chagrin Falls.
Malone was selected as Regional Coach of the Year for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 1996 and 2021, recipient of the State of Ohio Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award in 2007, two-time All-Ohio Coach of the Year and named United Soccer Coaches' Association National Coach of the Year in 2021.
In addition, she has been named Chagrin Valley Conference Coach of the Year 14 times and Greater Cleveland Coach of the Year six times in her career. She has coached four All-American selections, ten Regional Americans, 25 All-Ohio selections, and three Academic All-Americans and has had 20 teams in her 30-year career earn the OSSCA Team Academic Award.
Coach Malone has also been a trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance since 2016. Malone serves as Chagrin Falls' physical education department chair and has been employed by the district since 1989.
