Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls soccer continued to press until it found the breakthrough Monday, scoring in the 70th minute to earn a 1-1 draw against Willoughby South at NDCL.

Willoughby South struck first in the 38th minute, giving the Rebels a 1-0 advantage late in the first half.

The match settled into a battle for control of the midfield over the next 30 minutes, with NDCL searching for a way through a defensive Willoughby South side.

The Lions' persistence was rewarded in the 70th minute.

Emma Zulandt delivered a pass to Ella Ko, who converted the opportunity to level the match at 1-1. It was Ko's second goal of the young season after she also scored in NDCL's season opener against West Geauga.

NDCL continued to battle through the final whistle, but neither side found the deciding goal.

At the other end, goalkeeper Sadie Wurm helped keep the Lions within striking distance. Wurm faced five shots on target and recorded four saves.

"We are proud of the resiliency of the players to continue to attack the ball and play until that final whistle," the coaching staff said.

The draw gives NDCL a result to build upon after dropping its season opener, 3-2, to West Geauga.

The Lions return to action Aug. 27 when they travel to Cleveland Heights.
