GIRLS BASKETBALL
at Chaney (12/23)- Girls Varsity Basketball fell 59-47 to Youngstown Chaney in their second of a three-game road trip. Coco Cochran recorded a team-high 15 points, her third consecutive game scoring ten-plus points. Fallon Campolieti came off the bench to score ten points, a new career high for the junior. The Lions knocked down six three-pointers in the game, two coming from Sadie Wurm, Brynn Munn, and Campolieti. Girls JV Basketball dominated Chaney 43-16.
at Cornerstone Christian Academy (12/27)- Girls Varsity Basketball lost a close battle to Cornerstone Christian Academy 53-46. After a strong 22-point second quarter from CCA, the Lions fought back in the second half, outscoring CCA 24-19 and tied the game with just three minutes left. Unfortunately, that was as close as NDCL would come before the clock hit zero after fighting back from a 12-point halftime deficit. Senior Maya Rowan tallied a team-high 11 points and Sadie Wurm and Maddy Varga both scored nine points each. The Lions look to bounce back versus Shaw on Tuesday, December 30th at home for North Starts Throwback Night at NDCL. Girls Varsity Basketball moved to 4-5 as they approach the halfway point of the season.
SWIMMING
Heights Relays (12/27)- NDCL Girls and Boys Swimming competed in the Heights Relays hosted by Cleveland Heights High Schoon on Saturday afternoon. Both teams finished in second place overall in the meet. First place finishes for the boys team were earned by Lincoln Miller, Mark LaForest, Noah Scheider, and Brady Schneider in the 200-backstroke relay and Eli Charlton, Tommy Matthews, Miller, and Scheider in the 500-decrescendo relay. The girls team also featured two relay teams that took first place, the 400-medley relay team of Brooke Dynes, Madalena Fulton, Presley Engoglia, and Gabby White and the 400-frestyle relay of Lillie Engle, Dynes, Engoglia, and White. Great job to both of our teams on a terrific day at the Heights Relays! NDCL Swimming gears up for the highly anticipated All-Catholic Meet on Monday, December 29th at Gilmour.
ICE HOCKEY
at North Olmsted (12/27)- Ice Hockey defeated North Olmsted 2-0 to remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0. Sophomores Nic Davis and Joshua Hollobaugh scored one goal each in the win. Colin Krajnak and Josh Gucciardo both recorded one assist apiece. Goalie Nate McClellan collected 17 saves on 17 opponent shots for his second shutout of the season. The Lions improved to 7-3-1 on the season and will be back on the ice on January 9th at Cleveland Heights.
BOYS BASKETBALL
at Gilmour Academy (12/27)- Boys Varsity Basketball fell to an unbeaten Gilmour Lancers team on the road 81-72. NDCL trailed Gilmour 60-44 at halftime after the Lancers outscored the Lions by 22-11 in the second quarter. NDCL fought back with a 28-point fourth quarter to cut the Lancers' lead to just nine by the end of the game. The Lions were led by Brendan Hernan with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Hernan scored 16 of those points in the first half. Wesley Jacobson, Jack Sonby, and Jason Rook all scored in double figures. Jacobson with 17, Sonby with a career-high of 16 that included four three-pointers, and Rook added 10. JV and Freshman Basketball lost 71-64 and 60-49. NDCL Boys Basketball will be back in action on January 2nd versus CVCA for a conference battle in McGarry Gym. Boys Varsity Basketball moved to a 3-5 record with 14 regular season games remaining.
