The NDCL Boys Basketball team earned themselves a trip to the OHSAA Division IV Northeast 5 district final on Saturday night. The Lions defeated #19 Firelands 59-43 Tuesday night to advance to their second straight district final. It was a tight game
heading into halftime as the Lions led the Falcons by just two points 28-26. The team found their offensive rhythm in the second half as they outscored Firelands 31-17. Senior Connor Hernan paced the Lions with a game-high 18 points and his brother, Brendan Hernan, scored in double figures with 12 points. Junior Mason Pesho led the Lions in scoring off the bench with nine points. NDCL will face a familiar opponent in the district final as they battle the Hawks of Hawken School for a trip to regionals for the first time in school history. Hawken enters the game as the ninth seed and NDCL as the eighth seed. The Lions played Hawken in the regular season on January 11
th in a hard fought, physical battle and won by just one point. The Hawks enter the district final on a five-game win streak, most recently upsetting the third-seeded Ursuline in the district semifinal. The Lions are on a two-game win streak, defeating Akron East 81-38 in the sectional final and Firelands 59-43. Â
