Congratulations to Connor Hernan, the Northeast Lakes division IV all-district Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season.
Hernan is the first boys basketball student-athlete in school history to earn this prestigious honor. In just three seasons on varsity, the senior forward has totaled 846 career points. Hernan has been an unstoppable force on both ends of the court for the Lions, leading the team in three statistical categories: points, rebounds, and field goal percentage. He is averaging 17.2 points per game and is first in the News-Herald coverage schools with 11.4 rebounds per game. Hernan has recorded 13 double-doubles in 24 games and scored 394 points and grabbed 250 rebounds this season. He also set a new career-high 34 points in NDCL's 70-58 win over Padua on January 31st.
Hernan will look to add "district champion" to his stellar basketball resume as the Lions face Hawken tomorrow night in the district final. If NDCL defeats Hawken tomorrow night, the Lions will advance to regionals for the first time in school history.
Senior Angelo Tamburrino and junior Mason Pesho were named honorable mention all-district recipients. Tamburrino averaged 10.6 points per game this season. He totaled 223 points, 74 rebounds, 44 assists, and 34 steals. The senior guard led the team in both steals and deflections this season. Pesho averaged 5.8 points per game this season as the starting point guard. The junior recorded 71 total rebounds and had the best assist to turnover ratio on the team.
