NDCL Athletics Top Performers: Week of September 1st

Ella Workinger, Sophomore – Girls Tennis: Workinger made her return to the court this week from injury and immediately made her presence felt. She went 2-0 this week, defeating her opponents in first singles from Elyria Catholic and Beaumont 6-0, 6-0.
Girls Varsity Tennis won both NCC matches this week versus Elyria Catholic and Beaumont 4-1.

Urgiel, Junior – Girls Golf: Urigel posted a match best score of 38 in Girls Varsity Golf's win over Lake Catholic by one stroke 180-181. The Lions moved to 7-1 in match play and 5-0 in NCC competition.  

Abby Tolin, Senior – Girls Volleyball: In two games this week, Tolin led the team with a total of 51 digs,
eight aces, and added five kills. She recorded a season-high of 38 kills and five aces versus Elyria Catholic on Tuesday.  

Marija Vukovic, Senior – Girls Soccer: Vukovic scored her first goal of the season on an impressive header
assisted by Dria Duqum on a corner throw-in. The senior was a sound defensive force in the game, making tough, physical plays on both sides of the field.  

Ryan Cvitkovic, Senior – Boys Soccer: Cvitkovic scored his first hat trick of the season versus Salem on Thursday night. He
scored once in the first half and added two more in the remaining 15 minutes of the game to tie the score at 3-3. Cvitkovic's two goals in the final minutes of the second half saved the Lions from a 3-1 loss to Salem. 

Zoey Myers, Junior – Girls Cross Country: Myers led the NDCL Girls Cross Country team once again, this week at the Wooster Invitational at Wooster High School. She
had the top finish for the Lady Lions at the meet, taking 40th place overall with a time of 19:37.95. 

Kyle Nedved, Junior – Boys Cross Country: Nedved
had a season best performance this weekend at the Wooster Invitational. The junior finished in 35th place overall with a time of 17:36.53, his fastest time so far this season, the top finish for the Lions at the meet. 

Brady Capel, Junior – Football: Capel
was responsible for 745 all-purpose yards on offense, 499 passing and 246 rushing in the Lion's 48-45 triple overtime win at Kenston. He also completed 37 of his 58 pass attempts and scored six passing touchdowns and two more rushing. Capel once again excelled in his role as starting quarterback this season for the Lions. 

Carmen Cirino, Junior – Football: Cirino had a stellar night on both sides of the field in the Lion's victory over Kenston. Offensively, he caught four passes for
111 yards and a touchdown and on defense he tallied 22 tackles, three interceptions, and four pass breakups. Cirino was all over the field in the game and recorded career highs in every statistic on both offense and defense. 

Brendan Hernan, Senior – Football: Hernan had another stellar defensive performance versus Kenston on Friday night. He recorded new
career highs in each statistic, tackles (31), tackles for loss (7), and sacks (5).
