Lion Sports Weekly (Week of April 13th)

BOYS TENNIS 
vs Brush (4/13)- Boys Varsity Tennis defeated Brush 4-1 for the team's first win of the season. Christian Bittner and Dylan Hernandez picked up wins at first and second singles 6-1, 6-1, and 7-6, 6-1. Alex Russell also won his third singles match with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Grant Lewis and Bryan Purcell picked up the win in second doubles 6-4, 6-4. Boys JV Tennis won 2-1 over Brush.  

at Gilmour (4/14)-
 Boys Varsity Tennis lost 0-5 to Gilmour Academy on the road.  

vs Western Reserve Academy (4/17)-
 Boys Varsity Tennis fell to Western Reserve Academy 4-1. The Lions moved to 1-3 on the season. The team will be back in action on Monday, April 20th versus Elyria Catholic.  
 
SOFTBALL 
at Lake Catholic (4/13)- Varsity Softball defeated Lake Catholic 13-2 for their first conference win of the season. Alex Mould was the winning pitcher in the game with 11 strikeouts and just two earned runs in five innings. Mould also had a successful day at the plate with two hits, a double, and an RBI. Bella Wooke went a perfect 4-4 in her at-bats with a double and RBI. Sienna Steinmetz recorded two hits with a double and team-high two RBI.  

vs Beaumont (4/14)-
 Varsity Softball swept their season series with Beaumont in a 15-0 shutout win at home. Maya Rowan paced the Lions with two hits on three at-bats with a double and two RBI. Sienna Steinmetz went 1-1 with a double and three RBI, and Sophie Hoge hit a double on 1-1 batting and two RBI. Alex Mould recorded her second no-hitter of the season with nine strikeouts in just three innings pitched. The Lions improved to 3-2 in conference play.  

at Highland (4/17)-
 Varsity Softball racked up a season-high 16 hits in their 10-4 win over Medina Highland on the road. Leading the way was Sadie Wurm, hitting a double on 3-3 in her at-bats, one run, and three RBI. Alex Mould also recorded three hits on four at-bats with a run. Mould continued her dominance on the mound with eight strikeouts in seven innings and just two earned runs. Becca Wooke logged two hits, a double and a triple, and a game-high five RBI. Lily Rader, Sophie Hoge, and Sienna Steinmetz all tallied two hits each.  

vs St. Joseph Academy (4/18)-
 Varsity Softball downed St. Joseph Academy 15-5 for their seventh straight victory. Sienna Steinmetz recorded a team-high three hits on four at-bats, four runs, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Becca Wooke hit 2-4 with three runs and four RBI. Lily Rader went 2-2 with one run and three RBI. Bella Wooke, Maya Rowan, and Annaliese Racic all tallied one hit each in the team win. Racic got her first start and win on the mound this season. She struck out four batters in four innings pitched with just three earned runs. The Lions improved to 7-4 and will be back on the field on Monday, April 20th at Padua. 
 
BASEBALL 
vs Elyria Catholic (4/13)- Varsity Baseball fell 4-7 to Elyria Catholic at home. Jason Rook, Keenan Ryans, Aiden McCord logged two hits each on four at-bats. Rook recorded two RBI and Ryans and McCord both contributed one run each. Joey Mazzolini and Lucas Marlow tallied one hit and one run apiece. Jack Montague got the start on the mound for the Lions, pitching in four innings and striking out five batters.  

at Elyria Catholic (4/14)-
 Varsity Baseball lost 5-2 to Elyria Catholic in the second day of their back-to-back season series. Jason Rook, Joey Mazzolini, Austin Otero, and Braeden Ryan all recorded a hit in the game. Aiden McCord and Keenan Ryans each tallied a run, and Rook logged the team's only RBI in the game. McCord and Ryans both appeared on the mound, combining for four strikeouts across six innings.  

at Avon (4/16)-
 Varsity Baseball snapped their two-game losing streak with a 6-2 win in a non-conference battle at Avon. Joey Mazzolini paced the Lions with three hits on five at-bats with an RBI. He also got the start and win on the mound in the game, striking out six batters in four innings and allowing only two earned runs and one hit. Jason Rook logged two hits, two runs, and an RBI and Keenan Ryans followed with two hits and two stolen bases. Varsity Baseball moved to 3-5 on the season and will be back in action on Monday, April 20th for a conference matchup at CVCA. 
 
BOYS VOLLEYBALL 
at Kenston (4/13)- Boys Volleyball defeated Kenston 3-2 in a five-set thriller on the road. The Lions and Bombers went back and forth for the entire match, as NDCL lost the first set 17-25, won set two 25-16, fell in the third set 27-29, and took the fourth and fifth sets 25-21 and 15-1.  

at Eastlake North (4/14)-
 Boys Volleyball fell 3-1 to Eastlake North in the team's fifth game of the season. The Lions won the first set 25-20 and lost the remaining three sets 10-25, 16-25, and 21-25.  

vs Chardon (4/15)-
 Boys Volleyball dropped their home contest to Chardon 3-1 at home. The Lions fell in the first two sets 14-25 and 21-25, came back to win the third set 25-22, and lost set four 25-23.  

vs Berkshire (4/17)-
 Boys Volleyball lost in five sets in a hard-fought battle to Berkshire in McGarry Gym. The Lions took set one 25-20, fell in set two 29-31, dominated in set three 25-12, and lost set four and five 20-25 and 15-17. Boys Volleyball moved to 2-5 on the season. The team will be back on the court on Tuesday, April 21 versus Independence. 
 
GIRLS LACROSSE 
vs CVCA (4/14)- Girls Varsity Lacrosse topped CVCA 8-7 in thrilling fashion for their fifth straight win. In a back-and-forth contest through four quarters, the Lions showed their resilience once again, overcoming a one-goal deficit to start the fourth period. Macey Beers and Maggie Kane led the Lions, both scoring three-goal hat tricks. Meredith Gerbitz and Calista Cochran contributed one goal apiece in the win. The Lions handed 4-0 CVCA their first loss of the season. Girls JV Lacrosse defeated CVCA 5-4. 

vs Beaumont (4/16)-
 Girls Varsity Lacrosse's hot start continues as the team defeated Beaumont 10-4 to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Lions held the 4-1 Blue Streaks to just four goals in the game and two in the first half. The defensive attack was fueled by the Lions' offensive firepower, as the team recorded four goals in the opening quarter and 10 for the game. Maggie Kane scored a game-high four goals and Macey Beers added three, the second straight game that the pair recorded three or more goals. Elizabeth Keefe logged a season-high of two goals and Meredith Gerbitz contributed one goal. Macey Beers also tallied a team-high two assists and Keefe notched one assist.  

vs Riverside (4/18)-
 Girls Varsity Lacrosse defeated Riverside 9-8 at home to extend their win streak to seven straight games. Meredith Gerbitz and Macey Beers tied for a game-high of three goals apiece. Gerbitz's first career-hat trick and Beers' eighth game of the season scoring three or more goals. Lily Fakult followed with a season-high two goals and Maggie Kane contributed one goal of her own. Girls JV Lacrosse fell 6-7 to Riverside. The Lions improved to an impressive 8-1 on the season. Girls Varsity Lacrosse is back in action on Tuesday, April 21st hosting Hawken on Senior Night. 
 
BOYS LACROSSE 
at CVCA (4/14)- Boys Varsity Lacrosse fell 18-5 in a conference battle at CVCA. Cullen Purcell scored a team-high two goals and Alex Jaworski, Angelo Preziuso, and Ryder Gorman all contributed one goal apiece. The Lions moved to 2-1 in conference play with two NCC contests remaining in the season. Boys JV Lacrosse lost 0-11 to CVCA.  

at Mentor (4/16)-
 Boys Varsity Lacrosse lost to a high-powered Mentor Cardinals team on the road 4-22. Ryder Gorman recorded a team-high two goals and both Alex Jaworski and Will Paskevich scored one goal. Boys JV Lacrosse fell 3-13 to Mentor. Boys Varsity Lacrosse moved to a 4-4 record as the team reached the halfway point of the season. The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday, April 21st at Saint Vincent-St. Mary.
