Lion Sports Weekly (Week of April 20th)

BASEBALL 
at CVCA (4/20)- Varsity Baseball picked up their first conference win of the season over CVCA 6-4. Jason Rook paced the Lions on 2-3 hitting with two runs. Aiden McCord went 1-4 with two RBI and Joey Mazzolini hit 1-3 with one run. Aiden Hackney, Keenan Ryans, and Lucas Marlow all recorded one hit each. Jack Montague got the win on the mound with four strikeouts in six innings pitched, allowing just two earned runs. The

s CVCA (4/21)- Varsity Baseball fell 1-11 to CVCA at home in the second game of their back-to-back conference matchup. Aiden McCord tallied the team's only hit in the game, and Joey Mazzolini recorded the RBI to put the Lions on the board. Four Lions appeared on the mound in the game in Jason Rook, Zach Unetic, Charlie Capretta, and Jackson Taylor. Varsity Baseball moved to 2-3 in conference play.

t Cardinal (4/23)- Varsity Baseball dominated Cardinal 16-2 in a non-conference win on the road. The Lions racked up a season-high of 14 hits, 16 runs, and 15 RBI in just five innings. Keenan Ryans led the Lions with three hits on four at-bats, two runs, and three RBI. Aiden McCord went 2-3 with three runs, and Lucas Marlow also recorded two hits, two runs, and one RBI. Joey Mazzolini also logged two hits, one hit being a double, one run, one RBI, and a game-high three stolen bases. Mazzolini earned the win for the Lions on the mound with six strikeouts and just two earned runs in five innings pitched. Braeden Ryan followed with two hits and Zach Unetic, Jack Montague, and Ben Novak added one hit each.

t VASJ (4/24)- Varsity Baseball won big over VASJ 8-2 on Friday for back-to-back wins. Jack Montague recorded a game-high three hits on five at-bats with a run and an RBI. Joey Mazzolini and Braeden Ryan both recorded two hits on four plate appearances. Mazzolini logged one run and two RBI, and Ryan added one run to his stat line. Zach Unetic and Ben Novak contributed one hit each, Novak also tallying two RBI. Aiden McCord got the win on the mound for the Lions. McCord struck out seven batters in six innings pitched with just two earned runs and four opponent hits. Varsity Baseball moved to a 6-6 record as the team reached the halfway point of the season. The Lions return to the field on Tuesday, April 28th at home versus University School. 
 
SOFTBALL 
at Padua (4/20)- Varsity Softball defeated Padua 6-0 on the road for their eighth straight win. Bella Wooke led the Lions on 2-3 batting with a home run and an RBI. Maya Rowan hit a double on two at-bats with two RBI and Izzy Bair-Pennington also went 1-2 in her at-bats with a double and an RBI. Lily Rader and Sienna Steinmetz also recorded one hit each. Alex Mould exceled on the mound once again, striking out nine batters on no earned runs and just one opponent hit. Mould has eclipsed over 100 strikeouts in just 12 games so far this season. JV Softball fell 1-17 to Padua at home.

s Elyria Catholic (4/21)- Varsity Softball's eight game win streak comes to an end with an 8-13 loss to Elyria Catholic. Maya Rowan paced the Lions on a perfect 2-2 in her at-bats, hitting a home run and tallying four RBI. Bella Wooke also recorded two hits on four plate appearances and logged two RBI. Sienna Steinmetz, Becca Wooke, Izzy Bair-Pennington, Sabrina Velotta, and Sadie Wurm all contributed one hit each. Alex Mould struck out 12 batters in seven innings pitched. The Lions moved to 4-3 in conference play.

s Mayfield (4/24)- Varsity Softball defeated Mayfield 2-0 in a non-conference battle with Mayfield at home. Sienna Steinmetz and Sabrina Velotta both recorded two hits on three at-bats for the Lions. Steinmetz and Sadie Wurm tallied one run each, and Maya Rowan logged the team's two RBI. Alex Mould, Lily Rader, Sophie Hoge, and Wurm all contributed one hit apiece. Alex Mould shined on the mound once again, pitching in all seven innings and striking seven batters with no earned runs.

s Mentor (4/25)- Varsity Softball fell 6-5 to Mentor in an exciting non-conference road contest. Lily Rader went 1-2 in her at-bats with a double, one run, and a team-high two RBI. Maya Rowan also went 1-2 with two runs. Sienna Steinmetz, Alex Mould, Izzy Bair-Pennington, and Sadie Wurm all contributed one hit each. Alex Mould had another great performance on the mound. She struck out ten batters in seven innings pitched on just four earned runs. The Lions moved to 10-5 on the season with six games left in the regular season. Varsity Softball will be back in action on Monday, April 27th at CVCA. 
 
BOYS TENNIS 
vs St. Ignatius (4/21)- Varsity Tennis lost 0-5 to St. Ignatius.

t Edgewood (4/22)- Varsity Tennis fell 0-5 to Edgewood.

t St. John (4/23)- Varsity Tennis dropped a non-conference match to St. John 1-4. 
 
GIRLS LACROSSE 
vs Hawken (4/21)- Girls Varsity Lacrosse fell 3-13 to Hawken on Senior Night, ending the team's seven-game win streak. The Lions were led by Macey Beers with a team-high two goals and one assist. Maggie Kane also contributed a goal of her own. Before the start of the game, the program honored its nine seniors in Macey Beers, Calista Cochran, Ava Downing, Morgan Gerbitz, Maggie Kane, Julia Martin, Olivia Reagan, Sadie Skotzke, and Leah Szmania.

s Padua (4/25)- Girls Varsity Lacrosse defeated Padua in high scoring contest 11-10 at home. Macey Beers scored a game-high four goals, followed by Maggie Kane, Lily Fakult, and Meredith Gerbitz all scoring two goals each, and Olivia Reagan contributed one goal of her own. The Lions improved to 4-0 in conference play and 8-2 overall with four games remaining in the regular season. Girls Varsity Lacrosse will be back in action on Monday, April 27th at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School at 7:00 PM. 
 
BOYS LACROSSE 
vs St. Vincent-St. Mary (4/21)- Boys Varsity Lacrosse dropped their non-conference road battle with SVSM 7-12. Cullen Purcell recorded a game and career-high four goals in the game, followed by Alex Jaworski, Canyon Yeager, and Anthony Golden all scoring one goal apiece.

Hawken (4/23)- Boys Varsity Lacrosse fell 2-18 to Hawken. Cullen Purcell scored both goals for the Lions in the game. The team moved to 4-6 on the season. The Lions will be back in action on Monday, April 27th hosting Cleveland Heights in Lion Stadium at 6:00 PM.  
 
BOYS VOLLEYBALL 
vs Independence (4/21)- Boys Volleyball fell 1-3 to Independence at home. The Lions dropped the first set, came back to win set two 27-25, and lost the remaining two sets 25-11 and 25-16. The Lions moved to 2-6 on the season with five regular season games remaining. Boys Volleyball will be back in action next Tuesday, April 28th versus VASJ in McGarry Gym.

FLAG FOOTBALL 
Varsity vs Madison/Mentor (4/26)- Varsity Flag Football lost to Madison 0-33 and Mentor 8-20 on Senior Day. Seniors Lauren Cameron and Ava Hetman were honored before the start of today's games.
