NDCL Officially Announces Brendan Sweeney as Head Boys' Lacrosse Coach

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin High School is proud to officially announce the appointment of Brendan Sweeney as the new Head Coach of the Lions Boys Lacrosse program.

Sweeney has been an integral part of the NDCL community since 2024, serving as a Social Studies teacher, Academic Coach, assistant football coach, and assistant coach for the Lions boys lacrosse program. His dedication to students in the classroom and on the field, along with his passion for developing young people through athletics, makes him an outstanding choice to lead the program.

Prior to joining NDCL, Sweeney spent the 2024 season as an assistant coach at Wadsworth High School before joining the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin staff. During his time as an assistant with the Lions, he helped guide the program's continued success and was recognized as the 2026 OHSAA Division II Region VI Assistant Coach of the Year for his contributions to the team's achievements and player development. A 2024 graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Education, Sweeney also established himself as a leader throughout his collegiate career. He served as Vice President of the Kent State Men's Club Lacrosse team in 2022, helping lead the program to the Midwest North Conference Semifinals, before serving as President in 2023 and guiding the Golden Flashes to the National Collegiate Lacrosse League (NCLL) National Tournament.

"Brendan has earned this opportunity through his commitment to our students, his work ethic, and the relationships he has built within our school community," said Ryan Miller, Athletic Director at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. "He is a teacher, mentor, and coach who understands what it means to represent NDCL. We're excited for the future of our boy's lacrosse program under his leadership and are confident he will continue building a culture that challenges our student-athletes to grow both on the field and in the classroom."

Sweeney expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Lions.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful to be named the next Boys Lacrosse Head Coach for the NDCL Lions. I want to thank the administration and athletic department for their confidence in me and for the opportunity to lead this program. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to all of the coaches, mentors, teammates, players, friends, and family who have supported, challenged, and encouraged me. Each of you has played an important role in shaping me as both a coach and a person. Your belief and unwavering support have helped prepare me for this opportunity, and I am truly thankful. I am excited to get back to work with the student-athletes, coaches, and the entire NDCL community that I have grown with and embraced as a family. Together, we will strive to build a program rooted in hard work, accountability, respect, and a passion for the game. I look forward to developing young men both on and off the field while representing the Lions with pride. Go Lions!"

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin looks forward to the future of Lions Boys Lacrosse under Sweeney's leadership and is excited to continue building a program that reflects the school's commitment to faith, scholarship, leadership, and competitive excellence.
