Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls soccer held a first-half lead Saturday before Hawken responded to earn a 4-2 victory over the Lions at NDCL.

After Hawken opened the scoring, Emilee Gruss provided NDCL's response, finding the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.

The Lions then moved in front when Ella Ko converted a penalty kick, giving NDCL a 2-1 advantage.

Hawken answered, however, scoring the remaining goals of the match to secure the 4-2 victory.

Despite the result, NDCL continued the process of finding the right combinations within a developing varsity lineup.

"Despite the loss today, the lineup is coming together," the coaching staff said. "It's always a puzzle to determine the best formation for the talent that you have each year and to work with our strengths, which changes from season to season."

Saturday's match came three days after the Lions earned their first victory of the season, a 3-1 road win over Cleveland Heights. Gruss and Ko also scored in that victory, giving both Lions goals in consecutive matches.

NDCL will have another opportunity at home when it welcomes Beaumont on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
