Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls soccer battled through rainy conditions and scored three times in the first half to earn a 3-1 road victory over Cardinal Mooney on Monday.

Three different Lions found the back of the net as NDCL built the advantage it needed before halftime.

Juniors Ella Ko and Emilee Gruss each recorded a goal and an assist, while freshman Emma Zulandt added a goal to give the Lions a balanced attack.

NDCL's work in the midfield helped create opportunities going forward as the Lions showed continued progress in their passing and possession. Defensively, Sofia Belfiore provided a strong performance to help anchor the back line and protect the advantage.

"You can tell with the passing and control of the midfield that the players' hard work and commitment to the team's success is showing up in the rhythm of the game," head coach Pamela Malone said.

The victory continued a productive stretch for the Lions. After a scoreless draw against Avon Lake, NDCL defeated Elyria Catholic 8-1 before adding Monday's road victory.

The result moves NDCL to 3-3-2 on the season.

The Lions now return to North Coast Conference competition Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they travel to CVCA.
