Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin boys golf needed one more hole to decide a sectional championship Tuesday, and the Lions delivered under pressure.
NDCL posted a team score of 324 to finish tied with Perry before winning the playoff and capturing the sectional championship. Hamilton Miller secured the title by sinking a par putt on the final playoff hole.
The dramatic finish continued a postseason run in which the Lions have repeatedly answered when the margin has been at its smallest.
Lincoln Miller and Caige Cochran led NDCL with matching rounds of 79, while Danny Zaller followed with an 80. Hamilton Miller carded an 86, and Paul Williams finished with an 87.
With difficult playing conditions adding another challenge, the Lions remained within striking distance throughout the round and ultimately earned the opportunity to decide the championship in a playoff.
"Again, the boys fought till the very end," head coach Edward Trebets said. "Conditions were not favorable today, but NDCL overcame and came home with a sectional championship."
The finish came one week after another pressure-filled championship performance. At the North Coast Conference Tournament, NDCL entered the final hole one stroke behind before Caige Cochran made par to help the Lions secure the conference tournament victory with a team score of 326.
This time, with a sectional title at stake, NDCL again found a way to finish.
The sectional championship advances the Lions to the district tournament at Windmill on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
