Junior Ella Workinger is headed to the state tournament.

The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin standout secured her place in the OHSAA Division I Girls Tennis State Championships on Thursday, Oct. 8, winning both of her district tournament matches in straight sets.

Workinger opened district competition against Sadhvi Kurra of Revere, delivering a 6-0, 6-0 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

Her next opponent presented a significant challenge: Mallory Koch, the No. 1 seed from the Strongsville District.

Workinger responded with another impressive performance, defeating Koch 6-1, 6-1 to secure her state tournament berth.

Across the two matches, Workinger won 24 games while dropping just two, demonstrating consistency against district-level competition.

"Great tennis from Ella today; patient at the right times and aggressive at the right times," the NDCL coaching staff said.

The victories represent an important individual achievement for Workinger and another opportunity for the NDCL girls tennis program to compete on the state's biggest stage.

Workinger has been a key contributor throughout the season, earning North Coast Conference Most Valuable Player honors while helping the Lions finish second in the conference standings.

Her postseason success continues that strong campaign and reflects the preparation, discipline and competitive approach she has demonstrated throughout the year.

Although her state tournament berth is secured, Workinger's district competition is not finished.

She returns Saturday, Oct. 10, for the district semifinals and finals, where her results will determine her placement and seeding for next week's state championships.

With a state berth already in hand, Workinger now has an opportunity to build additional momentum before competing for a state title.
