Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls soccer took the lead against Padua on Wednesday, but the Bruins responded to earn a 2-1 victory in a North Coast Conference match at NDCL.
Freshman Emma Zulandt provided the Lions' goal, scoring the first varsity goal of her career off a cross from Emilee Gruss.
NDCL was unable to maintain the advantage, however, as Padua found an equalizer before halftime to send the teams into the break tied.
The Bruins scored the go-ahead goal in the second half, and the Lions were unable to produce another equalizer before the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Sadie Wurm helped keep NDCL within striking distance with a key penalty-kick save.
Despite the result, Zulandt's first varsity goal provided a milestone for the freshman and continued her contributions to the Lions' attack. Gruss added the assist after delivering the cross that created the scoring opportunity.
NDCL will look to respond when it hosts Avon Lake on Monday, Sept. 14.
