Lions Cap Successful Season With Top-10 Finish at State Tournament

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin's varsity boys golf team completed its season with a ninth-place finish at the 2026 OHSAA Division II State Championships, held Oct. 11-12 at Firestone Country Club's North Course.

Competing at the state tournament for the first time since 2020, the Lions posted a two-day team total of 674 strokes against a field of 12 qualifying teams. NDCL improved by eight strokes on the second day, following an opening-round 341 with a 333 on Monday.

Lincoln Miller led the Lions with rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161 total, tying for 29th place individually. Daniel Zaller delivered NDCL's lowest second-round score, shooting a 78 after an opening-round 86 to finish tied for 34th at 164.

Hamilton Miller posted rounds of 84 and 88 for a 172 total, tying for 51st. Caige Cochran followed with a 90 and 87 to finish 60th at 177, while Paul Williams recorded rounds of 93 and 97 for a 190 total and 70th place.

The state appearance marked the culmination of a season in which NDCL captured a sectional championship, earned a third-place district finish and advanced to compete among Ohio's top Division II programs.

While the final standings reflected the strength of the state tournament field, the Lions' season was defined by their collective approach and commitment to one another.

"What made this group special was they defined what it means to play as a team," NDCL coach Edward Trebets said.

NDCL's improvement from Sunday to Monday provided a fitting conclusion to its state tournament appearance. The Lions finished ahead of Buckeye Valley, Lynchburg-Clay and Swanton in the final team standings.

River View won the state championship with a 600, followed by Archbishop Alter at 605 and St. Clairsville at 624.

For NDCL, the return to Firestone represented an important achievement for the program and a reward for the consistency and preparation demonstrated throughout the postseason.

The Lions conclude the 2026 season having returned to the state championship stage for the first time in six years, establishing another chapter in the program's tradition of competitive excellence.
