Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls soccer delivered another strong defensive performance Wednesday, Oct. 7, but the Lions were unable to find an equalizer in a 1-0 road loss to Holy Name in North Coast Conference action.
The Lions remained within one goal throughout the contest, with their defensive organization and goalkeeping providing opportunities to stay competitive against a conference opponent.
Junior goalkeeper Sadie Wurm recorded four saves, helping keep NDCL within striking distance.
While the Lions continued to demonstrate consistency on the defensive end, generating goals remained a challenge. NDCL was held scoreless for the first time since its Sept. 28 match against Chagrin Falls.
The narrow defeat followed Monday's 1-1 draw with Kirtland, when Ella Ko scored her 13th goal of the season and Wurm recorded five saves.
Across those two matches, NDCL allowed just two goals, reflecting the defensive consistency that has helped the Lions remain competitive.
Wednesday's result also highlighted the importance of converting scoring opportunities as NDCL approaches the final stretch of its regular-season schedule.
With the defense continuing to provide a foundation, the Lions will look to find greater attacking production in their next contest.
NDCL returns to action Saturday, Oct. 10, traveling to Mentor for a 3 p.m. match.
