NDCL Girls Tennis Tops St. Joseph Academy, 3-2, for First Win of Cole Era

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls tennis secured a pair of firsts Thursday night, defeating St. Joseph Academy, 3-2, at NDCL for the Lions' first victory of the season and the first win under head coach David Cole.

NDCL swept the three singles matches to secure the team victory, receiving straight-set wins from juniors Ella Workinger and Lea Nemer before sophomore Emma Wilcox delivered the clinching point in a three-set match.

Workinger, a junior co-captain and returning state qualifier, set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

At No. 3 singles, Nemer, a returning district qualifier, followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win to put another point on the board for the Lions.

The deciding point came at No. 2 singles, where Wilcox worked through the most competitive singles match of the night. The sophomore district qualifier won the opening set 6-2 before dropping the second by the same score. With the Lions needing one more point to secure the team victory, Wilcox responded in the third set and closed out a 6-3 win.

St. Joseph Academy claimed both doubles matches, but NDCL's sweep of singles proved to be the difference in the 3-2 final.
