Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls tennis faced a deep Medina Highland lineup Tuesday in the opening round of the OTCA Team Tournament, falling 4-1 on the road.

Junior Ella Workinger provided the Lions' team point with a commanding performance at No. 1 singles. Workinger rolled through the opening set without dropping a game before closing out a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Sophomore Emma Wilcox also started strongly at No. 2 singles, winning the opening set before her match ended early.

NDCL received another competitive performance at No. 1 doubles from senior Audrey Kilmer and sophomore Paige Bittner. The Lions' duo battled throughout before falling 6-3, 6-2.

Medina Highland ultimately used its depth throughout the lineup to secure the 4-1 team victory and advance in the OTCA tournament.

"Medina Highland is a solid program," head coach David Cole said. "All seven of their players are training in the offseason. Our girls are working hard and getting better at handling the pace of the varsity point."

For NDCL, the tournament match provided another opportunity for a developing lineup to compete against an experienced opponent and continue adjusting to the demands of varsity tennis.

The Lions now turn their attention back to conference competition with a home match against Elyria Catholic.
