Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls tennis celebrated Senior Night with a competitive performance Thursday, pushing Walsh Jesuit deep into several matches before falling, 3-2, at home.

Ella Workinger gave the Lions a point with a convincing victory at No. 1 singles, while junior Lea Nemer provided one of the evening's strongest performances.

Nemer dropped a tightly contested opening set in a tiebreaker but responded to win the next two sets, completing a three-set comeback and earning NDCL's second team point.

The Lions had opportunities to turn the team result in their favor, with two other courts extending to three sets.

At No. 2 singles, NDCL battled through three sets before Walsh Jesuit secured the point.

The No. 2 doubles court also went the distance. Seniors Audrey Kilmer and Ela Gryzwinski pushed their match all the way to a third-set tiebreaker before Walsh Jesuit prevailed.

Those narrow margins ultimately separated the teams in a 3-2 final.

The match also provided NDCL an opportunity to recognize its seniors and their contributions to the girls tennis program. Kilmer and Gryzwinski highlighted the Senior Night effort with their extended battle at No. 2 doubles.

NDCL recognized seniors Aniela Grzywinski, Irelynn Koenig, Gabryella Dempsey and Audrey Kilmer on Senior Night. The four have contributed to the Lions' tennis program while also making an impact throughout the NDCL community through service, leadership and other activities. NDCL Athletics thanks them for their commitment to the program, their teammates and the school community, and wishes them continued success beyond their senior seasons.

NDCL now turns its attention back to North Coast Conference competition. The Lions travel to Beaumont on Monday, Aug. 31, for their next conference match.
