Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls tennis battled conference rival CVCA across the lineup Wednesday before falling, 4-1, at home.

The final score did not fully reflect how competitive the match was, with the Lions staying within reach on four courts.

Junior Ella Workinger delivered NDCL's team point with a commanding performance at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Estee Luiz continued to gain varsity experience at No. 2 singles. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Luiz pushed her opponent throughout the second set before falling 7-5.

At No. 3 singles, Irelynn Koenig stepped into a singles role for the first time this season, giving the Lions another player valuable experience in the lineup.

CVCA also secured both doubles courts. NDCL's No. 1 doubles team fell by matching 6-4 scores, while the No. 2 doubles pairing battled through a tight opening set before dropping it 7-5. CVCA pulled away in the second set to complete the victory.

Despite the team result, NDCL showed its ability to compete throughout the lineup against a North Coast Conference opponent, with several courts decided by narrow margins.

The Lions return to action Thursday, Aug. 27, against Walsh Jesuit.
