Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin girls tennis relied on its depth Tuesday, overcoming the absence of three regulars to earn a 3-2 home victory over Chardon.

Playing without Ella Workinger, Emma Wilcox and Lea Nemer, the Lions adjusted their lineup and received winning performances from first singles and both doubles teams.

Freshman Estee Luiz stepped into the No. 1 singles position and continued her strong season. Luiz earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory, settling in after a competitive opening set and controlling the second.

NDCL also picked up an important point at first doubles. Junior Nina Injic celebrated her birthday by teaming with sophomore Jamison Smith for a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

With the team match still to be decided, seniors Gabby Dempsey and Audrey Kilmer delivered the clinching point at second doubles. The duo earned another 6-4, 6-3 victory to secure the Lions' 3-2 win.

The result highlighted NDCL's lineup depth as Luiz, Injic, Smith, Dempsey and Kilmer answered opportunities in different roles.

With three regulars unavailable, the Lions needed contributions throughout the lineup to get past Chardon. Two doubles victories and Luiz's performance at the top of the singles lineup provided exactly that.

NDCL has a quick turnaround and returns to the court Wednesday at Hawken.
