A "student of baseball" is how The Plain Dealer described Bobby Kingsbury in 1999. More than just an outstanding athlete, Kingsbury was also a National Merit Scholar Finalist at NDCL.
Kingsbury finished his NDCL career with a batting average of .508 with 98 RBI. He drew 81 walks while only striking out 15 times - in his entire career! The News Herald and Plain Dealer named him "Player of the Year" in 1999, when he stole 41 bases and scored 46 runs for the Lions. Kingsbury remains the school's all-time stolen bases leader with 113. Kingsbury was named First Team All-Ohio in 1999, in addition to being named the Top Defensive Outfielder by Buckeye Scout News. The team went 22-6 in Bobby's senior year, losing in the playoffs to the ultimate state champions, Walsh Jesuit.Â
In addition to Baseball, Kingsbury won two letters for football and two letters for basketball at NDCL. He was offered numerous Division I athletic scholarships, and selected Fordham University to continue his academic and athletic endeavors. Twice he was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference "Player of the Year". Kingsbury was drafted in the eighth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2002 MLB Draft.
