James Weiler was an outstanding football player who played all four years of varsity football and was team captain in 1971 and 1972. It was unusual for a freshman to play on the varsity squad but Jim accomplished this because of his excellent talent as a running back. The team had a 7-1-1 record in his senior year. He was the Cleveland District scoring leader in 1972 as well as being the all-time Latin scoring leader for one year. Recognition of his outstanding achievements were recognized throughout this area can be noted from the following awards: All-Ohio first team defense, United Press All-Scholastic  - Plain Dealer and Press, All-Crown Conference first team, and selected MVP by the coaches. Jim went on to play varsity football at Notre Dame University for four years and was a team captain as a senior.
