As a sophomore, Matt McManus transferred to NDCL to join the elite Lion baseball program under Coach Jim Clark. With dreams of playing collegiate baseball, Matt was a three-year Varsity second baseman. Senior year, he was selected team captain and MVP with standout moments such as hitting a walk-off home run against Lake Catholic, defeating them 3-2.
In addition, his performance on NDCL's first hockey team is still remembered today. He took the inaugural '99-'00 season with stride scoring the first-ever goal in NDCL history. In just 18 games, Matt scored 21 of the team's 30 goals, had four assists, and 24 points overall. Matt scored a goal in every game but two games.
Dedicated in his name, the Matt McManus Trophy is awarded every year to the played who scores the most points.
