John Peckaitis was an outstanding basketball player for the "Latins" as they were known in the early 1920s. He played on Latin's first three basketball teams. As a junior, he was the leading scorer in the City as Latin won the City championship with a record of 13-1. He was captain his senior year and the team went 12-4. John was again the leading scorer in the city with 187 points and wa selected on the All-Scholastic basketball team. In addition to basketball, John was a member of the varsity football team for three years. He also was a regular for three years on the baseball team. He played right field, in the infield, and was a relief pitcher. In his junior and senior years, Latin's baseball team were City Champs.
