Ed Mahon was a halfback on Latin's football team as a sophomore in 1930 that went 6-2-1. He played on 1930-31 basketball team which were Catholic Champs. He was selected All-Catholic in both football and basketball as a sophomore. Although he was injured in the first football game of the season as a junior, he returned during the last two games and helped beat St. Ignatius 24-0 for the Catholic Title and and Central 18-0 in the first Charity Game to win the City Championship in 1931. As a senior, his team repeated in winning the Charity Game and City Title. He received honorable mention on the All-City Scholastic football team. He also continued as a regular guard on the basketball team as a junior and senior.
