Joe Perella was an outstanding basketball player for three years on the varsity squad. As a junior, the team won 23 consecutive games before losing in the semi-finals in Columbus. Perella was the team captain in his senior year. The team won 17 and lost 6, and won the city consolation, sectional district titles, but lost in the regional tournament. He was the second highest scorer on the team 376 points. Joe also was a regular on the football team for two years in the offensive backfield and as a defensive linebacker.Â
He continued his career at John Carroll University where he won All-Conference honors in basketball.
Joe returned to his alma mater to coach football and basketball. His 1973-74 team won the Crown Conference title, first in 17 years, and was selected as the Crown Conference Coach of the Year.
