Bob had an outstanding football career while attending Cathedral Latin. His football prowess entitled him to a spot on the 1961 Varsity team as a sophomore, a highly uncommon occurrence during Latin's football years. His steady and excellent play at tackle during his three years earned him a place on the All-Scholastic Team in 1963.
It also earned Bob a full football scholarship to the University of Nebraska. His stellar play there earned him recognition from the pros. The Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the seventh round in 1968, making it to the last "cut" with the Cowboys. He was sold to the New Orleans Saints. For two years, Bob was a member of the "taxi" squad until a knee injury cut his career short.
